Re: Hidden Truths (Altamira)
OoC: Let's try this again... <_<
A sentient being will, naturally, try to protect itself when feeling endangered; when it has become aware of something approaching that it does not wish to occur. Its self-regulating systems go on alert; blood sugar or pressure may rise, heartbeat may spike, hormones may be released, or breathing patterns may alter. Everything's a question of body chemistry and paces of actions prepping the being to respond.
But in what manner does an entity with an entirely different internal structure react?
Prince Hunter Merridale came to a standstill in the center of a large, dark room. Ornate, patterned wallpaper peeled off the walls in splintered sections, revealing graying mold and decaying wood. A feeble light peeped out from under a dusky shade in the center of the room, casting faint golden rays across the commander and his student's puzzled faces. The rest of the room's decor consisted of heavy, antique bookshelves lined with yellowing-volumes and grime.
"It is difficult," Hunter began to say, "to say if this is a library or other archives, but...it is certainly not the place I intended to visit. So perhaps the Dome knew the information we wanted resided here rather than the central library, or..." he let the thought drift off, unfinished. He was not prepared to consider the or just yet. So instead, he strode up to one of the shelves and plucked the first large book he came to out of it.
Kyralie waited patiently but nervously as the prince thumbed through the first few pages.
"This seems to be written in a different language, and unlike the books my friend Lady Madrigal has told me of, the Dome does not seem to control the content and translate it before my eyes, as has been her experience. It does however, seem to be a very learned book and might not be an entirely bad omen for our search."
While not without some workings of logic, the prince's assumption was in error. What he and his student were, at the moment, ignorant of was that they had been led into an old--and very obstinate--human man's collection of foreign Dome-related mythologies, of which he was the only soul who could understand them and tell of their contents.
Contents which he fully believed in and insisted to be truth.
OoC: I hope that ending wasn’t too confusing. ^^;;
