I said this just recently at Zelda Legends-

The thing that kept MP2 from surpassing MP in terms of gameplay were most of the Dark World sequences. It was neat that they made it more sci-fi with an 'acidic' atmosphere instead of it being some demonic, spiritual realm, but it still wasn't very pleasing to the eye. More importantly, of course, the damage effect it had on you was simply annoying after the first five minutes of it, and the game never did anything truly inventive with that mechanic. All it really did was limit your exploration. The worst thing about it though was the fact that you were basically going through the same area twice without much change to it and your tasks.
The game also had a few other annoying moments, like jumping off tracks with the Boost Ball, but the use of the Dark World was what ended up making it inferior to the original title. It sucks too, because everything else was fantastic, and, dare I say, better than Prime.

And I still hold to it. Outside if a few Dark World sequences and those Boost Ball jumps, I simply adored the game. It loved the more original environments, I loved the more serious and grim tone to the game, I loved that there was some kind of story going on, and I especially loved the more plentiful boss and miniboss fights. MP2 is without doubt one of my favorite games ever.
