Metroid Prime 2
Oh-ho-ho. I wonder how this will proceed.
I can see why some people felt disappointed with this game, but I see no reason why one should hate it. Of course, its plot was a bit more linear than the first Metroid Prime, with the inclusion of more NPCs. I can understand why people say that it damages the 'Metroid feel', but it doesn't make the game bad (And it definitely wasn't the first Metroid game to incorporate such an aspect.) Metroid Fusion was a quality game, and it had a similiar level of NPC interaction, for instance.
In my opinion, even though some of the "lone world" and "exploration" elements may have weakened, one still has a large, explorable world, filled with secrets and hidden backstory. There are still plenty of puzzles, ranging from easy to incredibly hard. It keeps plenty of the great aspects of the first Metroid Prime, and still retains alot of Metroid flavor.
Another major reason that caused disappointment, I believe, was the dark world/light world theme. I do agree, it did grow stale at points. Samus had a doppelgänger, which is nothing new to the world of gaming (As well as the Metroid series.) The environments were not as varied or as grand as the first Metroid Prime, and I believe that they could have done alot better in that aspect.
However, the great gameplay, adequate music, challenging puzzles, and hidden upgrades certainly make up for the stale factors. It was a great game, in my opinion, although it wasn't a masterpiece, like the first.
What are your opinions on the game?
