The older FF's (pre-6 mainly) often test your RPG patience, as with the PSX FF's and 6, you generally don't have to sit in one place and level for a long period of time..while with the older ones, it's likely you will. Although the last time I played IV, it was the retranslated Japanese version, which is significantly harder than FF2 that was released here for SNES.

And for the newest one, XII, I was very disappointed in it. Although I really put a lot of that on my former massive playing of World of Warcraft, which is real-time combat in an online world, while XII is real-time combat in a single-player format, so it felt kind of bland to me.

FFX-2 seems to be popular with younger girls due to the "dancing" and the "dresses" and such...it seems to have been Square's pitch at getting the female crowd, maybe more so in Japan than here. At least I hope so, because that's just what it feels like to me--a really bad Hollywood ripoff of Charile's Angels.
I agree with this...FF12 was sadly a mistake. The characters were dull and all the same. The entire game made me feel like I was playing FF11(only better than FF10-2). The ultimate hunt can take up to 3-5 hours for crying out loud! Some battles took WAY to long. And sadly, it was a boring game.

FF13 looks promising though.
