First of all because if you want a little fun I would recommend this game. Sure its not going to get any awards but its the feeling of completing that bonus objective in time and then proceeding to decimate the enemy forces in a shower of pretty explosions. Story line is total Cheese, even if the voice actors play it straight to their credit, but so was the last Film that featured fighter planes heavily and all the way back to top gun. The graphics, sure they’re not great but your description seems to want to put into to a category with 3d graphics of the early N64 generation. Essentially if your planes recognisable and you can clearly identify what you want to shot at you shouldn't care. Motion Control is good on both settings and the use of the analog stick for the throttle seemed very natural and I often find myself pushing forward just to feel that little rush even if technically the after burners weren't needed. It has faults but not any that destroy the game experience. As for your PS2 price argument, well I have only played the game on the Wii so can only recommend the game for Wii. And as an Australian the prices are closer to each other both being well over fifty dollars Australian. The PS2 version is still cheaper but not by as much.
Secondly this is an original Intellectual Property from IR Gurus, an Australian Developer. Now my sunburnt homeland is quickly developing a reputation as being one of the industry's code monkeys for hire. While licences are great and give many programmers a start in the business we are not allowed to express ourselves as fully as with an original idea and we will eventually lose these jobs to much cheaper labour in the Asian region. Thus we need more original games. To do this we need more of the original games to sell well. So that’s why I'm here as an Australian gamer recommending this game. I'm sick of seeing nickelodeon title after nickelodeon title from my local developers and I'm sure they are sick of making them. As I mentioned this game was made with the support of an organization that traditionally finances films (in order for them to be viable). Now for a few months now local developers have been calling for their popular art form to be afforded the same breaks as afforded to film that other place of popular artistic expression. IR Gurus seemed to have already taken those crucial first steps in achieving this. It’s a co-operative effort I would like to see more of in the future.
A review of the game I agree with
Finally I have to call you out on your classification of this game. This is not a flight simulation game; it's an arcade game. Frankly I played old Super Nes games which were more demanding in their physics and had you landing on aircraft carries many more times then this titles grand total of one. Heck for over half the missions you are already in the air not even needing to take off. It is more comparable to say the Rogue Squadron series or the classics of the 16-bit side scrolling shoot-em ups. You shoot, you dodge, you shoot and then you shoot and dodge again, a return to basics if you will. Go download Galaga and come to the realization that a wave of enemies is a wave of enemies despite there being a protect the fleet objective. Now you’ll probably criticize me for saying the core game play is old and thus giving me less reason to recommend it but it’s a return to basics that has worked well in the past. (I’m thinking the first Burnout here and New Super Mario Bros.) By stripping it back you get back to what makes it fun and are able to experiment with new directions. In this case it is the impact cam and the general use of slow motion during evades. It makes the game cinematic and satisfying. Cinematic in the slow down when you break left and that missile slides through the air space you used to be in and satisfying when you get that close up explosion of that ace pilot’s plane being scattered across the sky. Also the satisfaction of the impact cam on the guided bombs increases ten fold.
So do you know my reasons now?
