yes, I believe that Gohma could see with that eye since she 'locks on' to the player, before shooting the laser. I have never seen smoke from OoT Gohma though...well, about the laser, I think I know how it works. as the eye works with collecting light to se, Armogohma could use the light she collects to concentrate it and form the laser.
