Well it sure is possible that it's a coincidence but the fact that he appears in front of Link before the total destruction is a bit weird don't you think? You'd expect that he is gone already if he really has to go somewhere after 3 days, or at least he wouldn't be hanging around there telling Link that he ****ed up...

As for Link helping people, yes he did. I just mentioned that to show that the Happy Mask Salesman didn't want to tell him everything right away.
