Darkest Zelda Game?
Out of all of the Legend of Zelda games so far, which do you think had the darkest storyline?
I personally think Majora's Mask. Link is suddenly sent to a parallel world, has his horse and ocarina stolen, and is turned into a Deku scrub. He then finds out that he has to save the moon from crashing onto this twisted new world, filled with characters so similar to his old world.

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
Majora's Mask. IMO, the sections set in the Kingdom of Ikana were incredibly dark, but not in the "OMG blud' Shadow Temple style, more of a...subtle kind of darkness, if that makes any sense.

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
MM was creepier and more daunting, but TP seemed much more dangerous. TP was made so well that all the time I think that Hyrule is doomed. While in MM, you know you can always just warp back in time. In TP the future of the land seems very glim.

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
I don't see what was so dark about Twilight Princess.
Worst case Scenario, people in Hyrule live a half life as spirits, otherwise, they are perfectly fine. The only true danger was Zant's ego. In Majora's Mask, whatever happened, no matter how many good deeds you'd done, the Moon was always destined to crash and kill the people of Termina. The fact that Majroa's Mask has by far, far the most emotion and soul, in terms of growing with the NPCs and becoming very involved in their own individual storylines, with the knowledge that they will will definately die, regardless of what you do, makes it by far the darkest game. That, and even when you hae saved Termina, people have died either way: the Deku Butler's son, Mikau, Darmani...

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
MM takes the cake.
Every area had this eerie feel to it, from Woodfall to Ikana, the music was creepy, and the area just had this feel of coming evil. Every person in Termina worried and feared as they looked upon the menacing moon. The atmosphere was definately more intense than whatever you witnessed in TP. The masks also gave you that eerie feeling. The fact that you had to seal the soul of a Goron and a Zora to obtain a mask from them, which would then transform you into one of them, bearing a striking resemblance to them that even the citizens of the respective area can't tell the difference between. In TP, sure you had the twilight realm, but was it... ...all that dark? It looked too beautiful to be anything creepy, and Zant sure didn't make anything darker, not after his surprising change of heart Sorry, but MM is the darker game, pointe finale...

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
But how does that make it DARK in such ways! Wolves aren't just night runners! Although the game is kinda dark when you have all this Twilight around! So i know what you mean!

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
Not a very strong reason
Was the Twilight Realm all that dark people?? It looked fairly beautiful to me, with the floating pixels, the sky and whatnot. Plus the fact that Hyrule's citizens didnt know what was happening, didn't give that sense of fear into the game. The dark atmoshpere just wasn't as good in TP as it was in MM.

Re: Darkest Zelda Game?
I haven't played aLttP but I doubt a gb game is that dark.
TWW wasn't dark at all. It was actaully meant to be more fun. Ocarina of Time was only dark in the shadow temple and in Hyrule Market when you see what Ganondorf has done. MM would make a good argument for the darkest because the moon was falling and everyone was about to be doomed BUT..... I voted for TP because throughout the entire first half you're inside the twilight parts of Hyrule and everyone is suffering in different parts of the game and when you fight Ganondorf its storming. It even has the Zora Queen (forgot her name) die and you assume Midna dies at one point. Therfore I find that the most dark. |
