tuning guards actully don't do much, you're best off not having them, because that way it's much easier to tune and the strings last longer.
and tuning guards take a lot to maintain after a while.

also i'm pretty sure fender don't make guitars with tuning guards. the only major company that does is ibanez, i'm pretty sure. i'm not into ibanez's.
