Castle Vania

Who here likes this game? I know I do. Well, the one for the Nintendo 64 and the new ones for Playstation 2. The new ones really put forth a challenge for gamers; it is NOT easy to get through. Anyway, the story basically has to do with vampires, zombies, and other creatures of the night. The main objective of course is to kill the main vampire. And as cheesy as it may sound, it's really an awesome game. The storyline is a hooker and the graphics are excellent.

Re: Castle Vania

It is a really good game I might add. I remember when I bought it for N64. I love it. Then I bough Legacy of Darkness and I loved the fact that you are a werewolf. I'll admit that I got mad that Playstation took over and I couldn't play it on Nintendo anymore. I've played some of the newer ones and they are very impressive. But I'm a Nintendo guy and I can't just go out and buy a Playstation. Dam.

I've only played a few of those games, and by far Legacy of Darkness is my absolute favorite piece in the series. And although the 2D games can have very good quality and gameplay, I personally believe the series benefits more in a 3D environment, for it makes it less like you know you're playing a game and more like you're there in the environments.

Re: Castle Vania

I adore the Castlevania series, but like, only the ones that are in the story timeline. I hate Circle of the Moon. I'm currently hooked on Aria of Sorrow. I'd be hooked on Dawn of Sorrow, but I don't have a DS x3

The games have an amazing story, and Lament of Innocence tells how it all began, Dawn of Sorrow tells us how the story will end, but I seriously doubt that Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow will be the last Castlevania games though. They still have to make one containing Julius Belmont's quest which is set in the year 1999.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
Which was actually the year that Dracula appeared for the last time in the storyline. He is thoroughly defeated, his castle sealed away, and he does not take up the role of boss in Aria of Sorrow or Dawn of Sorrow.

EDIT:

I'm sorry x3 I rambled.

Wee! : )

Good to hear how you like the series. Generally speaking, the whole Castlevania series is like a diamond in the rough... In the sense that it's generally more obscure in the main stream gaming world, due to other "more popular" series over taking the general gaming community. Which in all essence is too bad...

I was however lucky enough to start off on the series on the original NES and was the first game I ever played, even before Super Mario Bros. I was hooked ever since, due to the series' extremely superb music, which have also set up some of the most fascinating envournments I've ever seen... Which has generally consisted of a singe person overtaking a behemoth of a castle. (and in some instances, it's surrounding countryside and alternate the alternate form of the "Creature of Chaos", aka the Castle itself.) Not only that, but I do enjoy the fact that the game does have a fairly set up storyline to guide the people along the series, though it is not flawless.

The series has also had a close tie with creatures of mythology and general evil creatures of many religions. The enemy list has greatly expanded since it's first debut and the series has seen it's share of unique, grotesque, sexy?, huge, small, bizzare, etc, of creatures which has kept much general interest for me of the series. (Though some of the more recent games have been overly re-using sprite from Rondo, SoTN, and Dawn.)

The series has had many ups and downs, but I believe that there is still life in the aging series and I'm glad for that.

Heh, the Metroidvania's are barely a challenge for the most part, especially compared with the good old school nes games. If you wan't a true "challenge" try out Vampire Killer (Original Castlevania for the MSX), Haunted Castle (Arcade version of original), Castlevania Adventure (For the GB), Akumajo Dracula (Remake of Original for X86000) and Dracula's Curse (NES).

With marvels like the original, Simon's Quest, Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania 4, Bloodlines, Dracula X:Chi no Rondo, SotN, Chronicles, HoD, AoS, DoS and PoR. One can truly say that these games alone hold a grand representation of a epic series of games.

Re: Castle Vania

I've been playing Portrait of Ruin today. That game is wonderful. I'd probably give it a 9/10.
