Currencies in games

Have you ever noticed some game series have their own set of currency? Like Zelda;s beloved Rupees.

Ones I've noticed........

Gald (Tales Series)
Gil (Final Fantasy)
Fol (Star Ocean)
Lucre (Sword of Mana)
Meseta (Phantasy Star)
Bells (Animal Crossing)

Can you guys think of anymore?

Re: Currencies in games

Interestingly enough, several currencies in MMORPGs have an actual exchange rate with real dollars. The currency in Second Life is notable because it can be converted to (or from) actual money by the people who run the game. Several people make their living buying and selling property for the in-game money, which they then convert into actual cash.

Oh, and yes, the Rupee is the currency of India.

Re: Currencies in games

I think that, in one of those later Megaman games, I think it was for Nintendo 64 (and Playstation) that the currency was Zenny. I think. I remember that name being a really odd currency name.

As for Zelda currency, a rupee is worth about 1-2 cents, American. Kinda puts a damper on finding 100 rupees, huh? They should've just said, "You got $2.23!"

Zenny was the currency in Ragnarok Online.

I can't think of any currency from a game that hasn't been mentioned before besides gold.

True, but you can't buy blue flames, bottled fairies, magic beans or exploding bomb mice with dollars can you?

Re: Currencies in games

I know that Pokemon uses some strange currency. Most people believe it's "yen" currency; however, if you take a closer look at the symbol that shows Pokemon's currency, it looks different then that of the yen symbol.

I also know that in Kid Icarus, the currency was "hearts."

Then there's a few games where the currency is "credits" (although I can't exactly remember which particular games features this type of currency).

Besides that, all the other currencies that I know of have already been mentioned.

C&C is Ore to you country's Currency. and in banjo kazooie it's Musical Notes.Kirby used GP in the great cave offensive. Battleon uses GP and Z-Tokens. D&D uses Bronze, silver, gold, electrum and platinum pieces.

I thought Runescape used coins? GP was just a player-term for the stuff.

Actually the game uses both terms. I'm not exactly sure why though.
