The Future of Nintendo!

After the Wii comes out, what do you think rests for the future of Nintendo? What do you think the new systems after Wii are going to be like?

Then again, why so serious?

Re: The Future of Nintendo!

Well here's my thought process.

The way I look at it, the Wiimote is a powerful NES Controller (very few buttons, easy to control, and motion sencing), so how can we improve that? How about the next controller be gloves...like more powerful Nintendo Power Gloves? Let me explain.

The system will still use motion sensing, however, it won't just sence the location of two remotes, it will sence the motions of your fingers, hands, arms, and more or less your body. Not only that, but it will also give you force feedback. Let me give you an example:

Imagine you're in a race car game. Place your hands in front of you the same way you would a car steering wheel. The gloves will have force feedback to make it actually feel like you're holding a steering wheel. How about a First person shooter? Have your hand/fingers in the possition you'd have like you're holding the gun and pulling the trigger: There would be force feedback from shooting the gun and resistant power on your trigger finger.

How about downloadable retro games like what the Wii has for it's virtual console? Well, here's the hard part. Let's say you're about to play Super Mario Brothers. Before the title screen is displayed, there will be a screen where it shows you how to hold your remote and where (more or less) the buttons are. If you've picked up an NES controller before, this should be cake. But things may get a little difficult once you pick up an N64 or GameCube controller to download.

So pretty much: Memory Force/Resistance Feedback and Motion Sensing in a pair of gloves. (I got the idea from the movie Minority Report).

One thing that would help this would be a bigger screen. Now we aren't going to have TVs the size of our walls, but we could have projectors. If we could improve our technology on projectors (maybe in the future we could have 3D projectors like the ones shown in Minority Report) and never have to buy a new TV every 10 years.

Re: The Future of Nintendo!

^ I think holding your hands out in front of you would get pretty painful. It's sometimes bad enough now with the Wii-Mote. But you can be lazy and 99% of the time just have it sitting on your lap.

It's far to hard to say what's next, technology changes far to fast. I mean just look at the file size differances...OoT was about 30-odd Mbs? Now was what TP? 1.4Gbs? 1400Mbs? Gears of War is what... 6Gbs?

In 5-6 years time, games could easily be up to 25Gbs. Technology moves pretty quick.

Re: The Future of Nintendo!

I have wondered, ever since I realized the Wii is really doing well, what Nintendo are going to do with Zelda and their consoles after what's happening right now.

I suspect we'll get a much better version of what we have now with the Wii. As it is now, the movements are a little simple with the Wii games. No one really wants to have to swing one certain way to do one certain swing or attack in Zelda, though. It's good, in a way, the way it's done now.

At the same time, as it is now, you can make moves with the Wii remote that will turn out the way you did them in-game, with Zelda atleast. All you have to do is swing your Wii remote in a very similar pattern to Link's attacks - if he "pokes" the enemies with the tip of the sword (the front-stab) you can as well with the Wii remote, by holding Z, the joystick forward, and stabbing forward.

So in a way we can ourselves make the gameplay more "realistic", but my point is that in the future, Nintendo might make that a standard. They'll make everything deeper.

If so, they should let people choose a more simple way of playing, for those that do not wish to swing around the Wii remote like one does with Wii Sports, but prefer the way we play Twilight Princess as of now.
