Lost, WTF is it about?

Like the tittle implies, what exactly is it about. I've been told that unless I watch the first season you're going to get the whole series so don't watch it at all. Anyway, can someone clarify what it is?

Anyway, I haven't really seen much of it. Only like one episode. I didn't get what was going on so I gave up.

My mom explained it to me once, when I asked why she watches it.

There's this feeling in the show that all the seemingly random and unrelated things that get thrown at you will somehow tie into a big over-arcing plot that relates to a plane crash at the beginning of the series.

But, as it progresses, it just keeps going on and on with the random unrelated crap, and proves to be nothing at all. There is no story. It's the writers do something to see who'll write the next episode, then they just think of whatever they wish, probably while they're drunk or stoned.

A group of people crashland on a seemingly deserted island, come to terms with the fact that they're probably not going to get saved any time soon, and try to survive. In the process, though, they discover that it's not just an ordinary island.

If you watch it expect to see lots of polar bears, a monster made of black smoke, menacing island "natives" that eat muffins and read Stephen King, the ruins of a giant statue with four toes, a crazy French woman, and several scientific facilities used in a project to predict the apocalypse.

I highly recommend it. It will confuse the hell out of you, but it's fantastic.

OH MY GOD! i love this show, and i checked out this thread. that video that you posted. whoa. how did that girl get it distributed and on youtube, when and were did this happen? there really was a darma inisitive? you gotta give me more information! this is so COOL! this is the most interesting thing ive ever seen on youtube. do you by anychance have any more site links about this.

It occurred to me that Lost no longer follows so much as an outline of a plot, if it ever did. The developments are so random, so frequent and so nonsensical that a Robot Chicken skit would require a minimum of twelve M. Night Shyamalans to properly convey the sheer volume of twists.

A plane carrying (I think) 52 people on it crases on a deserted island. Enter, Jack, the doctor, who is the main character. He goes around helping people. Then he finds Kate, a seemingly harmless adult girl who is actually a mercenary. Not much really happens, except they find a polar bear and a monster that is never seen eats the pilot.

Some other important characters:

Charlie: A heroin addict of a famous band.
Boone: A random normal guy who later dies
Saywer: Who you think is a bad guy.
Saiid: A former member of the army (forget which country), who is an expert of torture devices.
Shannon: Step-sister of Boone.
Hugo: Also known as Hirley, he is a fat man who later becomes a very important character.
Danielle: A french woman who has been on the island for 16 years. She has a daughter named Alexandra.
John Lock: A man of fate, and my personal favorite character.
Sun: A Korean woman who speaks English
Jin: Husband of Sun. Does not speak English
Michael: A black man
Walt: Son of Michael, who apparently has 'powers'.

While Lock and Boone are out exploring, they find a mysterious 'hatch'. They spend the entire season trying to open it, and then Danielle leads them to some dynamite, found in a ship on the island. They use it, and blow the top of the hatch up. End Season 1.

Enter Season 2. They enter the hatch, and find a mysterious man, along with many other things. A shower, some books, some records, and many other household items. The man then tells the people to keep pressing this 'button', where they have to enter some code:

into a computer, because he says something bad will happen. Nothing really important happens, expcept we find out that the people on the back of the plane have survived (they didn't know that). Some important characters are...

Ana Lucia: A really kinda normal woman
Libby: Another normal woman, eventually becomes Hugo's girlfriend.
Ecko: A man of Christ, and a killer at the same time.

They eventually find the other plane survivors. They hear things about 'Others', who are killers of this island. It is raining, and as Ana Lucia is hearing whispers of the Others in the woods, she shoots Shannon. Also Boone dies somewhere in there. They bury them and all that jazz. Sometime in the series, the monster is shown. When Ecko and Charlie are out in a big field, the monster of black smoke comes and stares Ecko in the eyes, and then it runs away. Then one of the Others gets captured and taken by them. He says his name is Henry Gale, but this is a lie. They almost kill him, but they make a trade. I really forget some parts here. In the end of Season 2, Ana Lucia and Libby are shot by Michael, because the Others took his son and that's the only way he can get him back. Then Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are captured by the Others. End Season 2.

Season 3 really hasn't gotten into any detail yet, but here are soem things that happened:

-Ecko is killed by the black smoke
-Kate is in love with Saywer
-The Others live on a different island than the one they crashed on
-'Henry's' name is actually Ben.
-Ben has a spinal tumor, and needs Jack to help him.

It's part of something called "The Lost Experience." Do you remember those Hanso Foundation commercials from near the end of last season? Well, they led to thehansofoundation.org, which in turn led to a bunch of other websites and videos. It was a game that told the story about a girl named Rachel Blake who was trying to expose the Hanso Foundation for a lot of messed up stuff they did. It was a big promotional thing for Lost and was used as an outlet to convey a lot of background information on the series (what the Hanso Foundation is, what the numbers mean, what DHARMA is and stands for, etc.). The video I linked to was pretty much the "grand finale." It was pretty cool. You can read more about it in the Wikipedia page here.

But no, the Hanso Foundation and the DHARMA Initiative aren't real, haha, but the whole point of the game was that it was supposed to seem like they were. It's called an "alternate reality game," and they usually tell their stories through websites and stuff and are meant to seem fairly real.

lost is a drama about ppl on a mysterius island and they struggle to survive against the others witch is a group of mistyrious ppl already on the island
