"The End" for 2D Zelda?

Do you think that any more 2D one-player Zelda games will be made? I hope so!

I'll take away the cause, but not the symptom.

I dont. 3d makes the environment and characters so much more alive than a 2D game. The 2d games were a little kiddie too. (LA,OoA,OoS.)

Re: "The End" for 2D Zelda?

I honestly don't think so. Not only are 2D games easy to produce, but they give a great nostalgia feel to Zelda gaming. Though the DS is the prodecessor to the GBA, the GBA is not dead (nintendo is still producing some games for it). So there just might be a chance for a new GBA Zelda game for the future. The LoZ, LA, & ALttP game were ports, so they don't count, and along with it was FS (which wasn't a huge success considering the requirements needed to play the game). I consider tMC as the only true GBA Zelda game (sorta how people don't consider FSA a true GC Zelda game when it honestly is), only to say that there's still time and potential for another GBA.

Yes, PH is coming out (The graphics are 3D, but for the majority of the game, it will be played in a 2D ALttP kind of style) but it doesn't mean that it's the last of it's kind.

Re: "The End" for 2D Zelda?

I don't think they will stop making a 2-d Zelda games. Even though the DS has 3-d capability, I would prefer a 2-d zelda game for the DS then a 3-d. Just bacause for a 3-d zeelda game
I would prefer a control stick over a + pad.

Also a note to BigGoronSword: Hi! Long time no see.

Really, I prefer 3-D games. But Four Swords Adventures was the only 2-D game I enjoyed. And it raised my expectations. While I didn't like LOZ, AOL,ALTTP, or the Oracle Games, simply because I'm of the younger generation of gamers (13).

Re: "The End" for 2D Zelda?

How can you not enjoy alttp? That game is just fun. I dont like AoL all that much, its fun at times but it can get annoying fast. Never played LoZ or the Oracle games(well messed around on my friends game)

They should never stop producing some fun 2d zelda games. However, odds are it will eventualy stop.

But 3D is always fun.

Re: "The End" for 2D Zelda?

Well I can't really see 2D games being much anymore at all.
I mean every new gaming console/handheld out does 3D. Nintendo will either stick with the 3D/2D look thats in Phantom Hour Glass or just go for good old 3D.

I don't think we've seen the end of them. Tingle DS is 2-D, is it not? We just need Nintendo to make an actual Zelda DS in 2-D.

I think nintendo should make 2D zelda games on the handheld systems and make 3D zelda games on the console.

Re: "The End" for 2D Zelda?

judging by the fact PH has 3d graphics but a top down(ish) view, i think thats the way it will go. PH is the first handheld zelda game to use 3D graphics and i doubt they will take a step back to traditional 2d graphics after that. 2d zelda is to all intents and purposes over and its no bad thing either as any future handheld zeldas will probably go for the top down view anyway

*agrees* Face it. 3-D is too popular now. 2-D is pretty much dead.

The DS has 3D capability, yes. But absolutely all consoles do. Even NES does to an extent.

I expect about 3/4 of the games will be 3D from now on, with a 2D one, like FSA for nostalgia purposes, however they'll get rarer and rarer.

Actually, the DS is not the GBA's predecessor, but rather a seperate system to it. Nintendo offically has 3 consoles out this generation, afterall don't forget the Micro.

Nintendo is continuing to push the 2D look, for example look at Yoshi's Island DS. Nintendo will not let 2D die, no matter what the new generation of gamers think. 2D is how games where brought up, and besides some of the console games we see today still have a bit of 2D mixed into them, like Viewtiful Joe, FSA, or pretty much every cel-shaded game.

Side-scrolling platformers are also 2D in a sence, and rereleased ports will keep the 2D world alive, so I highly doubt that 2D will perminatly disappear. And if you still don't believe that, look at cartoons/anime, compared to 3D movies and shows today.

Probably not. They might be less common than they used to be, but I doubt that there will be no more 2D Zelda games at all.
