Re: A Look Into the Past...
Yeah but changing just a few things doesn't work. Well, it works for now, but if you ever wanted to write a book on it, then you would not be able to do that. I have been writing stuff slightly similar to Eragon before I read it, but mine is different enough. However, I did have people riding dragons, but dragons did not have the same intelligence. Rather, they ate dirt, ash, and rock, and were holy creatures that fought for the light, but there are few and have not been seen very much.
But that is from a book I'm making called Xyronus. It has nothing to do with David Kuridan. That was a character I made from scratch.
Another thing, it is the name Rorand and the style of names, along with the beginning that makes it similar. It's not the details, but the basic story that makes it similar. Changing order helps, and you can keep the same amount of bow skill level, but try making the powers way different but still similar and you can even say that Rorand began using the sword instead of being taught to use it later by a character like Brom.
And yet another thing, if you know Star Wars at all, you can see the similarities between Eragon and Star Wars. Think of Dragon Riders as Jedi. Eragon would be Luke. Grew up on a farm, and was the last Dragon rider. He was taught by an old guy named Brom, just like Obi-wan Kenobi, There is the Empire, and Galbatorix is just like a mix between Darth Vader, a guy who was a Jedi(dragon rider) but turned evil, and the Emperor, because he is obviously emperor of Alagasia. Magic resembles the force, but that's because George Lucas and Christopher both know a bit about spiritual energy, and both of their concepts are similar. I don't know how far you are, otherwise I would tell you about more similarities. I already read Eragon and Eldest. They rock. My favorite books are still the Iron Tower series, but Inheritance was cool.
Sorry for such a darn long post. But it was sort of necessary.
