Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

May teh power of the Triforce force you to write better lyrics.
"My lips are sealed but my heart's still screaming out
It's too late to sing this song"

If it's too late then how do you sing if it's too late.

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

Actually that song is like about a guy that died, and he's viewing his body in 3rd person, and he's talking to himeself sort of... it's an abstract concept... maybe a little to abstract for you... but thanx for the comment... keep them comming!

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

its not bad. the music is good. from a musicians perspective some parts are a little off but nothing too bad. a piece of advice about vocals. whoever sings is obviously a little above their range as it is not in key sometimes. try using a lower voice so its easier to stay in key. when it comes to parts you want to emphasize try screaming them... it is after all emo. haha. these are merely my suggestions nothing to be taken personal. just remember youll never get anywhere taking compliments from girls... "WOW YOUR SOOO GOOD! YOUR IN A BAND? DO ME?" haha

also you can check out the last band i was in

Are you trying to say "without the heart" in French?

If so, it's actually "Sans le coeur."
That might be important to mention that.

The music itself is pretty mediocre, but the vocals are, no offence, just plain awful - they more often than not get drowned under the instruments.

I am not a fan of this type of music, I find almost all songs in these types of genres to sound exactly the same, so I'm not the best person to comment, but the constructive critiism I could make from a purely objective point of view is to seriously either get a new vocalist, or make sure you current one actually works on his own voice, so his singing dosen't sound so strained and forced.
Also - you might want to turn the vocals up so you can actually, coherently hear what he's saying, though right now - not being able to hear him isn't so much of a bad thing.

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

Musically speaking, it's not bad. Sometimes the instruments seem a little out of synch with eachother (especially on the first track), but that might be because of a sloppy mix. You guys are from my home city according to your purevolume, so I would enquire as to where you recorded, if you used a real studio; and then what software you used to record. If it is just a basement demo, then it's pretty impressive unless you had a pretty good idea of what you were doing. The vocal mix is a little low though, and I don't know how you miced the drum kit, but that definately could have been done better, it sounds really distorted.

I also wonder, is that actually how your vocalist sings? To me it sounds like he's trying to emulate the sound, since it seems like he's constricting is throat to get that sound. It sounds like he's trying to emulate the guy from Senses Fail to me, and I cannot stress enough how important it is to use your own voice. Even if you don't have a great voice, trying to distort it just makes it worse.

And just out of curiousity, how many shows do you guys play and where do you usually get booked?

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

Yeah thanx for the comments...

As for SuperDecimal... no it's Sans le Core as in "without the core"... 'cause now a days there is all this music like dancecore, hardcore, softcore, screamcore, gypsiecore, applecore, mathcore, whatever word you can think of with core at the end so we are without the core... as in no core...

For Galedeep... we recorded in a guys house in like his living room and bedroom kinda thingy... so yeah =\

Your timing is horrendous. Get a drummer that knows how to count.

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

The music is not that bad, but you could improve on syncing the instruments, mainly the bass drum and bass accents. Those two factors are key to keeping time and synching instruments.

Onto the main thing... To tell you truth, the lyrics and vocals are horrendous in nearly every way. Most of the time the vocals are in a different key than the instruments. On top of that they almost constantly sound like whining and screaming which grates my ears after just one listen. The lyrics could use some work, in that they sound really immature. That goes into the whining thing. It makes you guys sound like little kids when you double the lyrics on this line from "Gravity is not Resp..."

Laying at the bottom of the grave
(Laying at the bottom of the grave)

Focus on writing more mature and sounding mature, it makes listening a lot easier, trust me.

Onto recording... If you can't afford studio time or something, at least invest in a GOOD multi track recorder. It usually comes with instructions for mixing. Also, read some recording mags, they'd help.

Good luck

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

the sound quality isnt bad, considering you recorded it at some guys house.. i know u guys were probably just eager to record, and figured that would last until you got some real recording done.
but i dont really like the vocals, he sings a little out of his range, and he tries to sing like somebody else, instead of using his original voice. the music wasn't too bad... but the drummer sounds kinda off at times, he needs to focus on the bass player a little more... but good luck

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

Hmm... Where to start, where to start. Okay. We've got an average hardcore/punk/emo band. You're pretty good in acheiving that genre, meaning you're relatively talented. I like some of the riffs and licks, but I'm not a fan of the whole type of music. But again, you aren't bad at what you do. But on to the bad part. As mentioned before, the vocals are terrible. It sounds like the singer is trying too hard to acheive the generic sound of other vocalists within this genre. Maybe if he really tried to SING, it'd be more bearable. Also, the drums are 'meh'. While not very noticable, the drumming is quite sloppy. Other than that, I think you're alright. Bad name, if I may say so, and stereotypical emo lyrics/titles. But that's not too important. Right now, work on that vocalist. Then worry about other technicalities. Just keep doing what you do, long as you enjoy it.

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

Poor timing, uninspired lyrics. Sounds like everything else the teeny bunch listens to.

Change is Inevitable started out alright.... but then the drummer started with the high hat... and then the bassist started his bad line. i had to hit stop when the singing started.

The guitarist sounds pretty damned creative sometimes, but the drummer is waaay off way too often. The vocals actually made me chuckle.....

Re: My Band - Heart Sold Separately

The guitarist was good, but the drummer was crap, and it turned kinda bad near the end, but the cure to that is practice.

Honest opinion, sounds like a bad rip-off of Taking Back Sunday. And TBS aren't that good to begin with.
