Gracie's Inner Workings
I'm compiling all of my poems and will use this thread from now on. I'm gonna put them in timeline order. If you don't want to read through all of it, take a look at my personal favorites. They are 'Sailors to the Floor', 'In a Glass', 'Simplicity', 'Hook Me, Society', and 'Photographic'.
3/01/06 THINK out of the box around the ring beyond your train of average thought DREAM of what you want about what you love with an end that will never loom BELIEVE with incessant faith for years to come within your soul set it free 3/08/06 Fight It they all say that it’ll all go away but I know that it won’t they all say it’ll get better some day despite that it never will all we can do now is fight fight ‘till our hearts are black and dead and these memories persist their haunt now I say it won’t all go away but I know that I can fight it now I say it might not get better some day despite that I will fight 3/09/06 Motive I don’t understand your motive at all what’s the point? I ask you just shrug it off to avoid that tough question but you know, and I know that there’s none. 3/12/06 Sailors to the Floor it bellows its mournful cry a thousand leagues beneath the surface ruthlessly crushed by mother sea and by father ocean 6/10/06 That Monster I didn’t wish to be this way I never craved to be that monster That rips the flesh, with no care in the world And covetously devours…us. 6/10/06 In A Glass Pour Fate into a glass and Destiny into another They fill to the exact same place—they’re the exact some color Fate is ink black, Destiny black ink Is anything discernable? The swirls entwine my fragile fingers Encasing them like the deep unknown You can't see whats coming...better look down Do I just have to plunge? What's the difference here, the difference? Is one power bendable by our human will, the other set in stone? Is any of this possible... please, tell me, I must know. 10/03/06 one thing that we all want to know one thing that we all want to knowis how somebody can look at you different is how to look at somebody different if you love 'em it don't matter because the feelings inside put the gleam in their eyes put the gleam in your eyes if you love 'em you love 'em. and there's no more to it. 10/03/06 tick tock time goes by it flies then it stops our perception never is exact never and it never will be for anything. we think we are right let go of it all nothing is as lovely as it seems we are only here for the ride scream your head off if only oh if only! I could get away just for a little while, it's all that I ask if only for a little while... I would. just a day would do some good. 11/18/06 Everyone will wonder at some point or another Want to take a train and speed away Well throw your hands up in the air Now get ready for the scare. Life’s a game, what a shame, what a shame But there’s not a soul to blame Drown in water, drown in years, it doesn’t really matter ‘Cause no one’s gonna escape the world alive. Realize this, and keep in mind That you’ve got what you’ve got And you have it for a reason They’re weapons for the final stretch; who’s the last one left? 11/23/06 This world breathes, ever so softly Its colors vibrant, oh how lovely Yet...the pulse and rhythm, please, turn it off! Too much, tone it down, before I drown in this not-so-placid problematic place. Only one wish, a wish wished for forever A wish plaguing the ages A wish that the snake won't bite A wish for simplicity It will win the fight 11/23/06 The wrinkles in his rosy cheeks Told me of his ancient age And the quiet stare of glassy eyes Beckoned me to him. He sat silently in his rocking chair He had the air of Zeus, the supreme king And I sat behind him for hours on end Until he said, “I remember everything.” I shook my head, he was lying I attempted to comprehend, I was trying “But how…but how?” I simply asked For his feat I could not grasp. “I remember the nastiest winter… And I was only nine. It was cold enough to freeze me solid in a split second, That storm was not so kind. I can still see falling snow, The wiry bristles of evergreens And rest assured my little one Of this I tell the truth. Because for every second I have lived I can see the scene in my mind Every friend, every home Every lover and every flower bloom.” I said, “But what about the people? Do you remember them? Will you remember who they were When you reach the end?” “I will, and I do, of course I do! How could you think I had no clue? My long-gone wife with the beautiful eyes… Oh, how she made me feel inside!” Then there was an awkward pause And the old man began to weep. “Dear child, dear child, I am defiled! I cannot remember her name…I am a shame…” “I’m sorry old man, but didn’t you know? A person can’t remember everything, including me.” And then, in the blink of an eye… Gone was the man with the photographic memory. 11/23/06 So suddenly, nothing is the same So suddenly, it’s a whole different game So suddenly…snap! Here’s to the riches and the fame So suddenly, you’re the one to blame. So suddenly, you go from gold to trash So suddenly, it happens in a flash Have you learned your lesson yet? To always make the best of life This life that’s like a rose And never feel ashamed my dear, Because it’s time for you to realize That we all share the pain. 11/27/06 when it's over I want it to be over, and for this I plea I want no reminders, not the simplest kind but according to society, I find, that their questions are gonna plague me. every corner I turn they're there; when am I gonna learn that anywhere I happen to be these questions have their hooks in me. their hooks pierce my skin in a million different places pain stabs at me like a knife of hapiness there are no traces. if I could, my fingers would curl around these metal fangs and tear them right out of my flesh...stupid things! let me bleed, leave me be, this I need to feel and I promise that in time these viscious wounds will heal.

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
A ultimate collection of Gracie's poesy! I haven't read every poem with the attention they deserve, but those I have perused are excellent. My favourites are your short poems - concise, reading like a snap of fingers, a breeze, their meaning, streamlined, spilling across the intellect like cool clarity, liquid glass. They end with a bite, jolting the reader from complacence, into contemplation, a subtle "ah... ah ha..." (Motive) That was the reaction your poetry elicited from myself, anyway. I loved Photographic the best of your longer verses, the strains of narrative, the characters presented. And There's No More To It reads like an echo; the disposition of the poem aiding this sensation. Overall, I find your style quite inspiring. Cheers. =D Meh, I'm rushing a bit, and don't feel this comment gives your work justice. Perhaps I shall return to add to it. Ciao.

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
Thanks for reading, Selah. Please do come back. ^^ But I do appreciate the comments of yours I have gotten already.
Photographic, I think, is my favorite. It took me an hour, maybe an hour and a half to write. I lost track of time.

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
*pokes thread*
You've got quite the talent, dear Your poems don't focus much on rhyming, but their flow is really good nonetheless. You've got some very creative ideas here, and I like this "surrealistic" approach you take in your imagery. Your poems so far show that you're quite the poet, and your work can only get better with each piece you write ^^

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
Brilliant poetry Gracie!
I absolutely loved the ones you mentioned that were your personal favorites. Aside from those, I truly loved "Last One Left" and "And There's No More To It"... I'm not exactly sure why, but this line from Last One Left: Quote:
I definitely expect more. >=3 Oh, and "Photographic" is pure genius...

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
It's a trove of poems!
Most of them are quite eye-opening. I think the idea behind In A Glass is brilliant. The way Away For A While is written sounds like rushed musing, and I love the way you ended with that line. It's feels like you (the writer) just dropped everything and went away. And I think Photographic is very beautiful. A memory of a harsh winter, and it led to the bleak ending. |

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
Thanks so much for the comments, guys. They're extremely encouraging.
I wrote one in math class.

Can you elaborate on that...?
(by the way, Hook Me, Society is one of my favorite poems. It expresses how I feel right now.)

Okay, all I can say is, I got into alot of fights in school, and that poem, made me realize that it's not worth it.

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
o.o Are you serious? Wow...
Though, I always saw that poem as having a more aggressive tone. How exactly did it make you realize that?

Re: Gracie's Inner Workings
Wow. I love these poems. Especially In a Glass's surreal imagery and the questioning tone of fate and destiny. And with There's No More to It, I loved the duet feel you gave it, mind you I know it's not a duet, but the way you jumped between margins for indivual thoughts resembled the feel a duet gives. Great job! I look forward to reading more of your work!
