Yes... they did:

Article about the article in Nintendo Power

There, every information shown in the EDGE article is shown, and as it came first, the EDGE thing is only taking all the info from this NP article and other sources and making (really logical) assumptions. But maybe they DID received that info from Ninty... but I definitely say: NO. Assumptions, that is.
I know they reveald a lot. But not before the first dungeoun part. They just said a monkey guides you with your lantern
