Re: The ZU Democrat, Liberal, ect.

Rallying the troops, eh?

I think this could be fun. I also think these two threads should be merged, to create one uber-thread on politics. Sort of like 'Savage Nation' was before it became uninteresting.

But let's not get too busy with handshakes and back-pats; what should we talk about?

(does Google News search)

Hmm. An openly gay Episcopalian Bishop was just ordained. Could be interesting.

Re: The ZU Democrat, Liberal, ect.

Well, the Church should have seen this coming for decades. Not because of child-molestation scandals (which are a completely separate issue), but because Christian churches do not, as a rule, permit women to become priests or ministers. There are exceptions, for course, but fundamentally the Church has been a homosocial environment since its conception. And, of course, any situation dominated by one gender will necessarily attract those who are enamoured of that gender, and do not fit in 'normal' society.

It is historical fact that many queer men turned to the priesthood as way to avoid their sexuality altogether. A good majority of them remained hidden, or found sympathetic partners in the same situation. Now that the world is changing (or, even, has already changed), such members of the clergy need not hide themselves any more, and basic humanisitic principals that are starting to integrate with historical Church policy dictate that the Church become an equal-opportunity entity if it hopes to survive into the next century.

Im not a christian, but I believe that this is a step in the right direction for the christian environment. I don't really know a ton on the topic, so i wont say much, as I don't want this to become a topic about homosexuality.

Re: The ZU Democrat, Liberal, ect.

I wish you all the best of luck. While I agree that there should be two sided debates, it may be best to send the best from each to compete, as it is hard to debate 4 to one....believe me I know.

Still Good Luck

WTF?

Yeah, it's good to make fake letters from soldiers (american soldiers) in Iraq.

Quote:
Dear friends:

I wish I could send you some good news about my return home, but at this time there is still no word.

The last week or two have been pretty quiet for our company. The word on the Ar Ramadi streets seems to be spreading that they shouldn't mess with us. Every day, more and more Iraqis are waving and appear to be a little happier to see us.

I guess they are really getting the picture that Iraq will never see Saddam Hussein in power again. Most of the local population have lived their entire lives in fear of Saddam and his evil dictatorship.

It's also now evident that those who are still on the warpath will at one time or another find themselves within our crosshairs. This fear of us has led to a small reduction in attacks over the past several weeks.

It is a welcome change. But nonetheless our tempo remains the same. We are given news just about every day of another attack here or soldiers killed there. I guess it's a constant reminder of just how real it is.

I'm wondering what happened to all the support for our president. All the headlines I see are all bashing him.

Don't blame the president for sending me away. I knew it was a possibility -- we all did. We all knew what could happen and the price that we may have to pay, as did many others before my time and your time.

With our great sacrifices we have given all of you the rights you have today. We've given you a safe place to raise your family and live, and we've given you the right to say what you think when you want to. But let me remind you the world is full of evil people who threaten our way of life, our freedoms and those around us.

I know right now that the president appears to be spreading the military throughout the world. However, he wouldn't be doing this without just cause. It's not just about being an American. It's about being human. We have the responsibility to help those who cannot help themselves.

I respectfully ask you to support our president, even if you don't personally agree with him. I respect him for standing up in the face of adversity and making decisions based on what's important and not just popular.

I'm sure he's reading the papers, too, and realizes that his chances for re-election aren't good, but he still continues to make wise choices for the American people whether they can see it or not.

I will vote for a man who is willing to do that because he has the guts to do what's right, not what's just popular.

that's soooo good of him.

Iraq did not attack the United States. That would be Osama Bin Laden and Al Quaeda. The United States invaded Afghanistan with little good done, and now they have turned to Iraq under suspicions that they have (or had) "Weapons of Mass Destruction". They then proceeded to invade their country (with no actual proof or threat present), and didn't accomplish a whole lot either. Now, they're using other excuses to hide the fact that they were wrong.

"Hey, why not have a war", huh? I don't see you rushing off to join the army and "do your bit". War is not glamourous, nor is it fun. Seeing your comrades ripped apart by shells and bullets is no laughing matter. Young men and women dieing isn't a happy thing. Yeah, okay, let's go have a war. We'll be back by supper time. Let's go have a war, after all, why not? I mean, it's not like there's any threat at all. That's exactly the same kind of attitude that propaganda portrayed to the public in World War I and II. The fact that you can so casually say such a thing regarding the senseless deaths of hundreds of people is insulting.

But then again, I shouldn't be posting here. I'm Canadian, after all.

Re: The ZU Democrat, Liberal, ect.

If I had been old enough to vote in 2000, I'd have probably voted for Bush. Things haven't gone as well as many people would have liked; Afghanistan and Iraq are rather messed up right now, partly due to the fact that it's not an overnight job cleaning up and partly due to the fact that there are people there who are just nuts. They claim some religious duty to release Iraq from occupation, and what do they do? THEY BLOW UP A RED CROSS BUILDING!! And whenever that kind of stuff happens that's what the news people report. It happens so often you rarely hear about how much electricity has been restored. People are so quick to forget the welcome the soldiers mostly received whenever they went into a town. The incessant acts of terrorism are what's really annoying me right now. Every other day, it's suicide bomb this, car bomb that, psycho gunman the other thing.

Really, there's no point in two topics if everyone is going to post in both. Might I suggest merging them?
