Assignment - Gentechnology

In my norwegian-class we are writing a home-assignment and I have chosen to write an article about gentechnology, its advantages and challenges(or disadvantages) and I would appreciate if any of you could give me a good weblink to gentechnology-issues and debates. I would also like your opinions on gentechnology and its present projects or discoveries like cloning humans or creating animal-humans and so on.

well, i dont particularly see the advantages to cloning humans....

they still come out as a baby
theyre still gonna be a different person than the original

i have ethical problems with it too, but i dont see whats so much better about it than just doing it the good old-fasioned way. i mean, its the same thing, except no one's dna is being copied....

cloning humans themselves can be useful too with the help of cryogenics...

if we are ever able to successfully bring people back after being frozen, then what would be the point without a good new body? this is where the clone comes in. You have a clone of yourself and then when the clone turns 18, you give it a 'birthday ticket' and send it to this place where it dies and you put your brain in 'your' younger body.

umm this might bring up moral issues though. i dont care about them though.

Can you clone just one part of a body though? Does your heart, for instance, have different DNA then the rest of you? If not, I like what they did with the mouse. They made a prostetic ear, put it in the skin of a hairless mouse, and let the mouses' skin bond onto it. I wish I had a mouse grown ear.

Wes, murder is the unlawful killing of one human by another. I think that your situation would still classify as murder. How to get rid of Austin is what we must figure out...

well the only reason to clone would be for the human organs. but if they did it they would probably be cloned before they were born. i dont like this idea because if you were a clone, how would you feel, living your life knowing that your soul purpose for being alive was to be used as a "organ warehouse".

just wondering - if you cloned your liver because it was "bad" wouldn't the clone of it be just as bad because it is an exact dna copy?

killer crabs, you dont let them know they are gonna die when they are 18. you give them to a caregiver family thing and then when they are 18 you send em off for their birthday to the special place with their "special birthday ticket". they wouldnt suspect a thing and then - ya know, no hard feelings.

And LordOWesHowlett, it depends on the disease... there are some diseases that are hereditary, which means that the desease its contained in the DNA.

You cannot clone a body part like an arm or a head, but cloning organs like eyes, livers, bladders is on the other hand achievable!
A problem they are working with at the moment is creating lungs.
