Part 10: Connor
Link stood there completely bemused by the sight of the Korok. The Korok then broke the eerie silence and asked Link, ”Who are you really?” It asked this question quite suspiciously and also a bit intriguingly. Link thought about it for a moment or two, came to the decision that a tree couldn’t harm him, and then told him, ”I am Link.” And Link waited anxiously for a reply, ”So Link what has brought you here?” The Korok must not have known about the events that have been happening at Hyrule castle, so Link told his tale, and then when Link finished the tale he gathered his things and headed off to Hurrog.
When Link and Rex got to the beginning of a seemingly endless desert Link thought that he should have left Rex there, and as he entered the desert he wondered how Malon was getting on in the castle.
Malon had gotten nearly to Princess Zelda’s room; she thought if she could just get to the balcony that she would be in. Malon had been studying the guards patrol routes and was waiting for this one to pass by one more time and she could get on top of the ledge opposite her. As soon as the guard passed her, she jumped to the ledge – but to get to the balcony she would need a distraction. So she used the Deku Nut she brought earlier and quickly made it to the balcony.
As Link entered the The Gerudo Desert he remembered his adventures there. Back when he went through the trials of The Gerudo Desert he had to follow a trail of flags, and wondered how they still stand today. Next, Link stopped halfway through his thought and muttered under his breath, “I don’t have the eye of truth to see the ghost, how am I to get past without the ghost? It was bad enough to follow when I could see him. I’ll just have to persevere for now.” Link made it to the first trial and saw the first flag of many more to come, Link was about to walk to it when he remembered, “Quicksand!” Link shouted as remembered; last time he used the hookshot to get across, so he pulled out the hookshot he off Balor and used it on the wooden pole. Link’s hand gripped on tightly and he flew across the great chasm. Link followed the flags and came across a sign that said, “Any reckless enough to enter the desert please drop by our store.” Link saw a robed man flying on a magic carpet not that far away. But Link’s previous adventure here taught him it was just a mirage over quicksand and he was not going to fall for it again. But this also told Link he was close to the next trial.
Link walked and finally saw a stone building. He carefully walked towards it to make sure he didn’t wake the leevers; he hated those things. When he got to the top of the building, he went over to the stone tablet. He read it to himself, “One with the eye of truth shall be guided to the desert colossus by an inviting ghost.” Link did not have the eye of truth though, and he could feel time running out as he felt the power of the Triforce slowly slipping through his fingers. He could not get very far without the ghost guide, he thought he should check the cellar downstairs for something, but when he did there was nothing there but a skulltula. And then when he headed back to the roof it seemed his prayers had been answered, and there stood, or floated, the ghost guide. Now, Link should have known not to approach it because it would disappear just like a skull kid, but it did not disappear. Instead, it turned around and said to Link, “I remember you. I lead you to the desert colossus before, so I’ll lead you there again, but you better be fast.” And at that exact moment it raced off faster than Dampe, and with Link traveling so fast it was hard not to wake the leevers so as well as following a ghost at high speed Link also had to duck, weave, dive, and do all sorts of evasive maneuvers. after many hardships Link made it to the Desert Colossus.
