In ROUND 4 of my useful things done today, I reinstated the music section. It was a stunningly easy fix, and I just hadn't spent the few minutes needed to find the problem until now. the problem lay in the .htaccess file for the ../soundtracks/ folder. It was set to deny all access to any and all non-FTP queries. For those of you unfamiliar, an .htaccess file is used to set parameters for various things that the server will do. They can be used to set up perminent redirects, rename urls used (such as you can tell it that anytime someone uses the extention .shtml, the server changes it to .php, or what have you), or, as in the case of the ../soundtracks/ folder, deny access. I figured that's what the "problem" was, as .mp3 files are serious bandwith hogs, and various powers that be in the past didn't appreciate that (current ones probably don't, either, but oh well). There was, for whatever reason, an .htaccess in ../downloads/ as well as ../soundtracks/, though that one didn't do anything. (I also checked the main .htaccess, in the public_html directory, but that didn't affect anything, as I suspected.) Since there's no point to having .htaccess in directories, unless they have specific differences from their parent, all I had to do was remove the file from the directory, and POOF! It all falls into place. Now you can ride into battle to the tune of the OoT overworld theme, or something. Comments (0)
