Some may have noticed on the forums a good amount of bots posting in General Zelda all kinds of shameless ad-spam posts for pharmaceutical companies and such. Then again, maybe not, since the forum moderators are admirably efficiant in removing those posts, and banning the members. Trying to prevent that sort of thing can be an effort. I've instated a couple of things, and if they don't work, I'll be going to something more drastic... but this should be plenty good enough. The first thing is that, at the suggestion of some of the forum staff, I made it so that all users must make one post before they can make a thread. This'll probably confuse some new people trying to make their "hey, I'm new!" threads, but it's a small price to pay to prevent some really nasty posts, I think. The second way is that I changed the image verification. Image verification is a common way to prevent adbots from registering, as they have to do type in the letters in a generated image. Somehow or another, somebody invented a way around the simplistic ones, so I made it use TrueType fonts, instead of simple fonts. Sources (vB.com) said that that helps prevent the registrations. Only time will tell. Comments (0)
