Bosses
Monday, 10 January 2005

Link comes across a variety of evil monsters, known as Bosses.  These menaces, who are found at the very end of dungeons, pose quite a larger threat than normal enemies.  However, with the tips below, you should stand a fighting chance against them.

Pumpkin Head
Pumpkin Head
Once the battle starts, attack the body.  The body will vanish after a few hits; use your Power Bracelet to pick up and throw away the head when this happens. The ghost inside the pumpkin will come out and run back to the head, so use this chance to slash it with your sword.  A few hits will put out this Jack-o-Lantern's candle.

Head Thwomp
Head Thwomp
The Head Thwomp has four diferent colored faces: red, blue, green and violet. To cause damage to him, you must throw a bomb into the opening in the top of his head.  However, since the Thwomp is spinning, you must make sure the bomb explodes while the face shown is red.  If you miss a throw, be careful: he'll use a number of various attacks on you.  Three bombs should turn this block to rubble.

Shadow Hag
Shadow Hag
The Hag will be separated into a few shadows upon first entering the boss' room.  Dodge them while waiting for the shadows to combine.  When they do, they'll form the Shadow Hag. After forming, she will release four moths to attack you, which are fairly easy to exterminate. Once all four are dead, she will then come up directly behind you to attack. Do not attack her with your sword - instead, position yourself near and face a wall.  When she comes up behind you, fire a seed with your Seed Shooter towards the wall you're facing so that it bounces off of the wall and hits the Hag.  A few rounds will turn her to dust.

Eyesoar
Eyesoar
Your Switch Hook will come in handy during this fight. Simply take out the small Patras first, then attack the eye with the Switch Hook.  Run up to it and slash with your sword.  Eyedrops won't save this one.

Smog
Smog
The battle with Smog is quite an easy one. Simply take out your Cane of Somaria to meld all the small clouds into Smog. Lots of sword slashes will cause this dust cloud to give up the ghost.

Octogon
Octogon
Octagon's not that hard a foe: simply slash at him and avoid his attacks.  Be aware that if you get trapped in a bubble, you will not be able to move around for some time.  When he dives into the water, chase after him, but be sure to dodge his fireballs

Plasmarine
Blue PlasmarineRed Plasmarine
There is a trick to defeating Plasmarine, and it is quite easy once you get the hang of it. Plasmarine is impervious to normal weapons (they will change his colour from red to blue), but what about his own attacks? He will send ane energy ball at you of the same color that he is. Switch places with him using the Switch Hook and he'll get a nice dosage of his own medicine. Just remember to not use the Switch Hook when he electrifies himself, or you'll get a nasty jolt. Send him straight to Davy Jones' Locker with several rounds of this.

Ramrock
Ramrock
Ramrock has many different attacks and therefore there are many ways to attack him right back. At first, his hands separate and go after you; slash them with your sword. When he decides to crush you with his hands, place a bomb in the the middle of them to cause damage. When he puts on his mask, shoot seeds off of the back wall so they bounce and hit the back of his head - but be careful here, as he will fire lasers and enery balls at you. Finally, when he throws an Iron Sphere at you, grab one with the Power Gauntlet and throw it right back at him.

Veran
The evil sorceress is the last boss in Oracle of Ages, and she puts up quite a fight, that consists of three phases.

Phase One - Ambi
This round is pretty simple, as it is relatively the same as the last time you fought Veran. Once again, she will take Ambi's body, so it won't be any good to attack directly. Use the Seed Shooter with the Mystery Seeds to make Veran leave Ambi's body, and use the Switch Hook to pull her away from Ambi. Once you have, hit her with your sword. Repeat this at least three times to proceed to the second phase.

Phase Two - Final Form
Phase Two - True Form
This is Veran's "true form", as she so nicely puts it herself. To defeat her, simply use your sword, while jumping over fireballs. The Seed Shooter also works, however, if you so prefer to use it.  Twenty hits from either will defeat her...or will it?

Phase Three - Transformations
In this phase, Veran will cyble between three different forms. To defeat her, get in a total of 50 slashes with your sword, and peace will finally prevail in Labrynna once more! The three different forms are:

Turtle
Phase Three - Turtle Veran
You must dodge the Turtle's ground-pounding attacks until Veran's head pokes out; strike her with your sword when she does.

Bee
Phase Three - Bee Veran
To take the Bee out, make sure to avoid her stinger attacks by jumping over them, and slash her with your sword. If you run low on hearts, destroying the Killer Bees that she sends out helps tremendously!

Spider
Phase Three - Spider Veran
This is perhaps Veran's most powerful form. To get in your hits, you'll need to first stun her with a perfectly timed bomb, and then while you have the chance, quickly run to her and slash away with your sword!
