| Bonus Disc |
About a month or so before Kaze no Takuto, or The Wind Waker,
was released in Japan, an announcement from Nintendo ticked in at the
offices of the largest gaming magazines and websites around the world.
They had decided to release a bonus disc for those who purchased The
Legend of Zelda - Kaze no Takuto within the first two days of its
release. Naturally, those who pre-ordered it would get the disc as well. The disc contained two games in one. The first one was a direct port of the Nintendo 64 smash hit Ocarina of Time, and the second one, which was what excited most fans, an upgraded version of the same game called Ura-Zelda. This is basicly a just slightly different version of Ocarina of Time with harder dungeons. This upgraded version of Ocarina of Time was originally planned to be released for the 64DD CD add-on for the N64, but since that never got further than the Japanese boarders, Ura Zelda suffered the same destiny, and only 20 000 copies of the game were released because of the way the 64DD add-on miserably failed. American and European Zelda fans were both thrilled and concerned by this announcement, and the main question everybody asked eachother was "Will Nintendo do a similar campaign in North America and Europe, or will we once again miss out on Ura Zelda?". Thankfully, both Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe decided to come to their senses, and both European and North American gamers will get the same offer as the Japanese Zelda fans got, and as if that wasn't enough, they even announced the English name for Ura Zelda -- Ocarina of Time: Master Quest! For America, the Bonus Disc shipped on February 16, 2003 for all of those who pre-ordered the The Wind Waker. Without doubt this legendary deal was a huge success, as the amount of bonus discs was not enough for all Zelda fans out there! Not to mention that more than 600,000 pre-ordered The Wind Waker in America, which makes it the most pre-ordered game in the history of gaming, and it almost doubled Ocarina of Time's legendary record of 325,000 which has been in the Guiness Book of Records for more than five years now. Nintendo of Europe decided to do it a little different than the way they did in Japan and America, as they included the bonus disc in the same box as The Wind Waker came in, making the boxes containing the bonus disc Limited Edition. Also in Europe the game sold very well, much thanks to the bonus disc. |
