In Phantom Hourglass, there are three different types of Spirit Gems, known as Power Gems, Courage Gems, and Wisdom Gems. These gems can be handed in to the hidden island known as Spirit Island, south of Molida Island, in return for special upgraded abilities. To use these abilities, Link must equip one of the three Spirits that correspond to the power he wishes to use.

• 10 Power Gems doubles Link's attack power and sets his sword aflame.
  
  • 20 Power Gems quadruples Link's attack power.
• 10 Courage Gems enables Link to fire a thin laser from his sword.
  
  • 20 Courage Gems doubles the width of that laser.
• 10 Wisdom Gems doubles Link's defense.
  
  • 20 Wisdom Gems quadruples Link's defense.

1	Island Shop	Buy it for 500 rupees.
2	Isle of Ember	After beating the temple of fire, Astrid will give you a Power Gem.
3	Cannon Island	First, go into the cave on the island. Bomb the bombable wall with a bomb flower.
4	Isle of Gust	Head to the southwestern part of the island, then use your shovel on the soft soil there and ride the wind gust to the top. Get the chest.
5	Wind Temple	At B2, go to the room where all the sand worms are. There’s a chest at the far left of the room.
6	Mercay Island	There’s a cracked wall on the way to the Temple of the Ocean King. Bomb it, and follow the cave to the end.
7	Mercay Island	After you finish the Temple of Wind, go talk to Oshus and he’ll give you a Power Gem.
8	Ocean King Temple	At B4, defeat all of the Phantom Eyes and a chest will show.
9	Temple of Courage	At 1F, bomb the cracked wall to the northwest.
10	Temple of Courage	At 2F, in the room where you cross the moving blocks, there are two eyes for you to shoot. Shoot them. A chest will appear.
11	Ocean King Temple	At B3, head to the high platform to the southeast. Shoot the eye in the room and the chest will appear.
12	Ocean King Temple	At B7, head to a peg at the northeast corner. Jump onto it, then use your grappling hook to hit the nearby orb, making a chest appear.
13	Goron Island	After you’ve become a member of the Goron tribe, go through the maze that’s near the temple. There’s a chest with a Power Gem at the end.
14	Isle of Frost	There are pegs outside the Temple of Ice. Jump onto them, then climb to the top using your grappling hook. After you reach the top, head to the next area and grapple the chest at the end of the path.
15	Spirit Island	At the eastern part of the island, use your grappling hook to continue heading east. Keep following the path until you find a chest.
16	Bannan Island	After docking on the island, go south and grapple the chest on the tiny island across from you.
17	Molida Island	Go to the cave near Romano’s hut, then jump across the ledges there.
18	Isle of the Dead	Fall into that hole that you dug up, then bomb the cracked wall and open the ensuing chest.
19	Isle of Ruins	After the water level on the island is lowered, head to the maze. At the northeast part of the maze, there’s a chest. Open it for a Power Gem.
20	Any mailbox	After you complete Mutoh’s Temple, wait a day and Mutoh will send you the last Power Gem.

1	Mercay Island	Find the cracked wall near the Ocean King Temple, then bomb it and enter the cave. Continue on until you see the statue on the platform, and then hit it. Have it aim the laser towards the Ocean King temple. Place a bomb near the temple where the laser is, then go into the new cave. There is a switch in here which you need to hit with your boomerang, causing a chest with the gem inside to appear.
2	Ocean King Temple	At the entrance to B1, look for a wooden pole. Use your grappling hook to create a tightrope between this pole and the next, then get onto it and shoot the eye on the wall. This causes a chest to appear.
3	Ocean King Temple	At B8, put the triangular crystal and round crystal in their pedestals. This causes a chest to appear, which you get to by crossing the invisible path at the top platform.
4	Isle of Ember	Go to the northwestern part of the island, and use your grappling hook to reach the chest there.
5	Temple of Courage	In the room before the Boss Room, go behind the stairs and bomb the wall.
6	Molida Island	Go left from the Temple of Courage entrance and use your Grappling Hook to reach the platform there.
7	Spirit Island	Go to the right of your ship and you’ll find a chest.
8	Temple of Wind	Head to the southeastern part of B1 in the temple, then ride the wind gusts up to the chest.
9	Isle of Gust	Go to the part of the island where that long-lasting gust takes you across the platform. Jump down and then bomb the dead-end wall.
10	Bannan Island	Go into the (only) cave, then travel to the end of it and blow up the wall. Travel through and get to the chest with your grappling hook.
11	Uncharted Island	To get here, sail around in the eastern past of the Northwestern Sea. Go into the cave on the island and reach the chest in the first room with your Grappling Hook.
12	Goron Island	Head to that Goron who told you to kill Yellow Chuchus. Near him, there’s a boulder that you can grapple onto. Do so.
13	Dee Ess Island	At the northern end of the island, jump into the pit. A chest will appear when you kill the enemies.
14	Dee Ess Island	At the “touch screen” part of the island, dig around the southwestern corner with your shovel.
15	Isle of the Dead	It’s in one of the chests in the end of the room in the hidden Rupoor area.
16	Isle of Ruins	After the water on the island has been drained, go to the eastern side of the island, where a chest is.
17	Mutoh’s Temple	At B2, use your hammer to smash all the buttons on both sides. Head southwest from there and you’ll find a chest.
18	The Sea	When pirates board your ship, defeat them and Linebeck will give you a Courage Gem.
19	Beedle’s Masked Ship	Buy it for 500 rupees.
20	Any mailbox	After you defeat the Goron Temple, wait a day and you will get the gem in the mail.

1	Beedle’s Shop Ship	Buy it at his Shop Ship in the Southwest Quadrant for 500 rupees.
2	Any mailbox	After playing the Salvatore’s Cannon game on Bannan Island, he will send you a letter in the mail with a Wisdom Gem.
3	Any mailbox	When you defeat the Temple of Ice, Aroo will send you a letter a day later.
4	Mercay Island	Bomb the cracked wall on the way to the Ocean King Temple, then enter the cave that appears. Continue on until you find Freedle, and you’ll see the chest.
5	Ocean King Temple	At B9, kill all the Wizzrobes, and a chest will appear.
6	Ocean King Temple	Head to the northwestern corner of B2, and blow up the wall at the safe zone there. Then use a bombchu to go through the wall and hit the switch. Z chest will appear with a Wisdom Gem.
7	Isle of Ember	When you’ve completed the Temple of Wind, talk to Astrid. She’ll give you a Wisdom Gem.
8	Molida Island	After you leave the wayfarer’s cave, there is a cracked area of the ground. Dig there and a hole will appear. Jump down it and get the chest with the Wisdom Gem.
9	Temple of Courage	At the southeastern corner of B1, there’s an orb device. Hit it with your boomerang until it faces north, then shoot an arrow into it. A chest will appear.
10	Zauz’s Island	There’s a cuckoo near Zauz’s house. Carry it, then jump east to that platform with the chest on it.
11	Bannan Island	Once you get the letter from Jolene, deliver it to the mermaid at the Old Wayfarer’s Hut. She’ll give you a Wisdom Gem.
12	Isle of Gust	Enter the cave near the center of the island, then open the chest inside the cave.
13	Goron Island	Answer all of Biggoron’s questions correctly, and he’ll give you a Wisdom Gem.
14	Isle of Frost	From your ship, head north to the next area, then to the two houses nearby. To the west of these houses is a ledge with a chest. Use your grappling hook to get up and open the chest.
15	Temple of Ice	At 3F, after turning the orb blue, head north of the orb and get the chest.
16	Temple of Ice	At B1, head to the northeastern corner of the room and get the chest. The blue walls must be down at the time.
17	Maze Island	Complete the Treasure Maze game on Beginner difficulty.
18	Maze Island	At any difficulty level, bomb the cracked wall that’s on the eastern side of the island. Open the chest there.
19	Isle of Ruins	After you drain the water from the island, head to the northwestern part of the island and find a cave. Go in and open the chest.
20	Isle of Ruins	To the south of the northeastern pyramid is a large boulder that you can roll. Keep pushing it to the east until it smashes into another boulder, then take that path to a chest with a Wisdom Gem inside.
