There's a rumour going on concerning a new Zelda for the Wii, which will be in first person. More info inside!
The rumour states that Retro Studios, well known for their Metroid Prime series, is creating a new Zelda for the Wii. This Zelda won't be a normal adventure. No, not at all; it appears to be in First Person! The rumour also says that the game will have influences from the very first Zelda-titel, The Legend of Zelda, on the NES. You will be able to control your shield by swinging your Nunchuck and you will be able to slash with your sword by using the Wii Remote. As for now, it sounds like a mix of Oblivion-gameplay and Metroid Prime-graphics. Could this be the Zelda MMO of which some people were talking about? And will this be the beginning of Miyamoto's words since Twilight Princess: "Twilight Princess will probably be the last Zelda-game which will be 'Zelda-like' as we are used to right now."? Time will tell. Nothing has been confirmed yet. Source: Wii-DS Comments (49)

First person? Meh. I think I'd prefer to have another game with the usual 3-D Zelda viewpoint, but I guess it all depends on the gameplay. (If this is true, it had better be good..)

Retro? Doing a Zelda game? Huh? Yeah, I wouldn't like it if it was 1st-person. Didn't they try something like this with Twilight Princess, and it wasn't good?

I think it sound like a pretty good idea. It would be spmething new and refreshing, but there would be a heck of a lot of controversy over it. I think it would be great if the gameplay was in first person, but not the cut-scenes, and you could switch back and forth.

Uhum. It's my own website and we're the (2nd) best visited Nintendo-site of the Benelux. We've also got some hot exclusives now and then. For example; we had the European release of Mario Kart Wii 2 weeks before it got confirmed by Nintendo and therefor it got copied by a lot of sites, including American sites. Wii-DS is being used as a source quite often lately. And still, this is a rumour :P.

If you're referring to the screenshot in the original article - the text underneath it says: "A preview of what's coming up?". So it's a comparison and not the actual game ;).

I think this is cool, new, and inventive. I can't wait to see what it's like. I would be really sad if Twilight Princess was the last nostalgia-inducing game of the Zelda series, though...

I hope it's not true. links crossbow training was okay, but just didn't seem like it should have. retro already has metroid prime, it really shouldn't take everybody's fave non 1st person game and make it 1st person. I just hope miyamoto lied about TP.

Interesting. Not sure how I feel about this. I mean Zelda is my favorite game series, and I'm a little worried about it being taken in a completely different direction. But on the other hand, everyone's been saying that the Zelda series needs to do something really original and maybe this could be that. It'd be interesting to say the least.
don't worry who this is

This kind of sounds like when the Wii was revealed and everyone thought it wasn't going to work and no one liked the idea. Now look where we are. I'm sure if it turns out to be true, they will do it right and make sure it works. Of course, I hope it isn't true because playing 1st person Zelda seems odd...

Well, I HAVE heard that Retro might be working on a Zelda game... I'm not so sure about it being a first-person game, but come on... It's freaking Retro Studios. I think we've got nothing to worry about.

I would much rather Retro made a new first-person Kid ICarus than a first-person Zelda. I think that Kid Icarus would translate much better to first-person than Zelda would

Oh God. This could go either way. I was really impressed with what Retro's been pumping out, but if they mess this one up, Nintendo will plummet. It's a coin toss, really.

I say this will either make or break Zelda. Maybe even Nintendo. It could be the Zelda we were looking for right under our noses but on the other hand it could be horrid that will make you shudder just looking at the box art. We are at the wait n see stage unfortunatly. I hate those.

yeah, I'm not gonna play a 1st person zelda game, I have oblivion, I'll play that if I want it, Zelda needs to either remain the same, or be retired, they ruined mario and sonic, they don't need to screw up zelda too, if they do, I will forever shun nintendo

When will people get it that Miyamotos statement was said before the Wii mote was reveled and it was also said before Twilight Princess was announced to also on the Wii? He was saying how the controller would change Zelda forever.

Nintendo knows better than to mess with a tried and true formula. There's no way this could be true. The game would not have the Zelda feel at all - It would just be a rehack of Metroid Prime. I'm writing this rumor off in my book.

thats funny, I was thinking a while back "what if the Zelda franchise was handed to Retro studios?" sounds interesting. I would not mind it since it have influcences from the first Zelda. fully non-lineir gameplay? first person you say? count me in. but tis a rumour, but a man can dream.

Uhhhhhhh... personally if it was first person, the only thing i would look forward to is maybe having a halo like multiplayer. Running around hyrule with your bow and horse and sword... but not a whole Zelda adventure in first person. I like seeing Link do all his cool skills (twilight princess)

id be so dissapointed if it was 1st person, it ruins he way zelda is ment to be played. And seriously, nintendo have taken risks in the past, but they wouldnt risk ruining zelda just to have 1st person gameplay... im sure myamoto was talking about controls being new, seeing as TP was a gamecube game but slightly changed for wii.
Lord_Insizor
said:
I dont believe this, but if it happened, id be really dissapointed. When Myamoto said that the way we play Zelda will change, im sure he ment there will be different controls, seeing as they didnt make much of the wii-mote in TP.

Nintendo has been really smart with the Wii and everything so I think that if they in fact change the style a little it probably will be a good thing. I mean seriously the series needs a good change up. If it keeps being the same formula down to a tee it will become over done like the Mega Man series (which I still whole heartedly like in it's side scroller form). I have my doubts though that Retro Studios is doing it alone though. I mean the Zelda series is one which Nintendo still personally hand crafts themselves (except the GBA outings where they called in Capcom) cause they want to fully guarantee quality. I can see them working along side them and having some of their staff help them make it since they definitely are leading in the department for first person controls. Metroid Prime 3 was exquisitely well done.

I believe TP was one of the best Zelda games ever. The graphics were pretty cool and the story was awesome. I dont know about a futuristic Zelda game though like Ive heard. I think they need to keep it in the same time it is in now.
