9. Goron Island

by on March 14, 2021

Southwest Sea

From the entrance of the Temple of the Ocean King, you will want to head back to Linebeck’s Ship and set sail for the Southeast Sea. Once you’ve made it to the Southeast Sea head towards the large island to the southwest of this quadrant, Goron Island.

Upon approaching the island you will be sucked up by a cyclone and set to face a Massive Eye. To defeat this creature you will need to shoot the eyes on the side of its body with your cannon. The eyes are originally yellow, and turn pink after you first hit them. Hit them a second time and they will close for good.

During this battle, the monster will throw yellow energy balls at you and the occasional flying sea monster. You can shoot both of these down with your cannon. The Massive Eye will also swoop down and charge the ship. There is no avoiding this attack.

Once you’ve defeated the Massive Eye you can now safely dock at Goron Island.

Goron Island

Now that you are docked on Goron Island, you will need to introduce yourself to everyone here in order to move forward. This includes Gorons who reside in their houses.

As you make your way around the island you will come across a sign and a Goron located on the other side of the water. Shout into your microphone to get the Gorons attention. Doing so will allow you to cross over to the other side of the island.

Treasure Map

One Goron just north of the harbor will mention some monsters on the other side of the cliff. Use your Shovel to dig up a wind geyser just to the north of this Goron. Go up to the higher platform where you can use your Bow to shoot the Yellow Chuchu’s on the other side of the cliff. You will then be rewarded with a Treasure Map!

There are 12 Gorons in total to talk to. Once you’ve introduced yourself to all of them Ciela will let you know and you can now go talk to the Goron Elder, Biggoron.

Speak with Biggoron and you will take part in a quiz in order to become a member of the tribe. The quiz will cost you 20 rupees. Fork over the cash and begin answering some of the questions:

  • Q: The Goron at this spot! What is he staring at? A: Ship
  • Q: How many homes are there on this island? A: 6
  • Q: How many Gorons live on this island? A: 14
  • Q: What number question is this? A: 4
  • Q: How many Rupees have you won so far? A: 46
  • Q What is on this spot? A: Chest
  • Q: How many Gorons are in their homes right now? A: 7
  • Q: How many Gorons are outside right now? A: 7
  • Q: What color were the odd creatures on the cliff? A: Yellow
  • Q: Of those Gorons outside, how many are adults? A: 4
  • Q: How many rocks are in this home? A: 3
  • Q: How many Goron children are on the island? A: 6

After completing the quiz you will be rewarded a Wisdom Gem! Speak with Gongoron, the elder’s son, to show you the way to the temple. Gongoron will run off and you will need to locate him. The first time he is located on a cliff on the western part of the island.

After locating him he will run off again. Now he can be found on the eastern side of the island where the Goron from before wouldn’t let you pass. Make your way to this location where you can now continue past the Goron to the northern part of the island.

Upon entering the northern part of the island you will see a large maze. Use the bomb flower to blow up the cracked blocks. The path to the left leads to a switch, which will allow you to obtain a Power Gem later if desired.

Blow up the cracked block on the right to follow the main path. From here continue to make you way north and then west, using bomb flowers (or your own bombs) to blow up the cracked blocks.

Eventually, you will reach a point where there are no more cracked blocks and you are stuck. Locate the design on the floor just beyond one of the northern walls. Use a bomb to blow up this section to proceed.

Optional Treasure Chest

If you stepped on the switch from before (by taking the left path) you can obtain a Power Gem from a chest that resides behind spikes. After you exit the maze on the western side of the island, travel south and then east to find this treasure.

Use a bomb to blow up the Like Like to cause the spikes to your west to lower. Head west over to the temple and step on the switch just outside to create a shortcut. You may now enter Goron Temple!

Goron Temple

1st Floor

Enter the temple and make your way to the east, avoiding the Beamos and Blue Chuchus. Walk until you find a floor switch that when stepped on lowers nearby spikes. Push the deactivated Armos along the path and onto the floor switch. Once the spikes are lowered head north.

Up here you are going to encounter another Armos. This time you need to hit it with a bomb to disable it. Once you disable the Armos push it onto the floor switch at the northern part of the floor. Head through the door to the east that will open.

Defeat yet another Armos using a bomb, and push it onto the nearby floor switch. This will cause a bridge to appear. Use your shovel and dig up the soft spot to cause a wind geyser to appear. Ride the wind geyser up a level and head west across the bridge.

Drop down to the west and defeat the two Armos in this room. The door to your south will open and you can walk through to the other side. From here step on the floor switch to the south to create a shortcut to the temple entrance.

While at the floor switch heat west and blow up the cracked wall using a bomb. You will enter a dead-end with an acorn to replenish bombs. You can see an opening to your east. Head back through the door and place a bomb where the opening was from before (between the first two pillars on the right). From here head through the door and down to floor B1.

Basement 1

Upon entering the basement the door behind you will close. Defeat the Fire Bubble with your Bow and continue south and east past the spikes that lowered. Keep walking to the northeast corner and you will be reunited with Gongoron.

Now that you are tasked with saving Gongoron a Hinox will appear. Defeat this enemy by shooting its eye with an arrow, and then once it it stunned slash it with your sword. Repeat this until the enemy is defeated.

From here you will now have control of Gongoron. Using Gongoron, walk southward and defeat all of the Rock Chuchus. This will cause the spiked blocking Link to be lowered.

As Link now, head south and defeat the Like Likes using either bombs or arrows (don’t get too close). Defeating them will cause another set of spikes to be lowered. Step on the switch to your south and switch back to Gongoron. Roll across the gap that used to be blocked by spikes and step on an identical floor switch. Doing so will now cause a large treasure chest to appear.

Run over to the chest using Link and open it to receive Bombchus!

Again switch back to Gongoron and continue south past the spikes that just lowered. Defeat all of the Eye Slugs in the room to unlock the door on the western side of the floor. Switch back to Link one more time and pass through the unlocked door.

In this new room defeat all of the Eye Slugs and a treasure chest will appear. Open the treasure chest to obtain some treasure. This will cause one last set of spikes to lower. You now want to use a Bombchu and trace a path through the small hole in the wall, around the corner and hit the crystal switch. Doing so will allow you quick access to floor F1 and B2.

Head to the west, past the spikes that just lowered, and walk up the stairs to floor F1. From here defeat the enemies and then use a Bombchu to hit the crystal switch on the other side of the small hole. This will cause a bridge to appear, giving you quick access to the temple entrance.

After creating the shortcut go back down the stairs from where you came (floor B1) and down the other set of stairs to floor B2.

Basement 2

Walk to the east and defeat the Like Like that appears. Once you’ve defeated the enemy make your way around the room, destroying any rocks you see. Some are Rock Chuchus so be careful.

You will now want to stand to the left of the crystal switch located at the northern part of this room. From here use a Bombchu and trace a path through the small holes in the wall to the other crystal switch. Once the Bombchu hits the switch immediate slash the crystal switch next to you. If you time it correctly the spikes to your west will lower.

Head to the west and walk down the stairs to floor B3.

Basement 3

Avoid the quicksand and defeat the Miniblins found in this area. Doing so will award you a treasure chest with 20 rupees in it. Claim your reward and walk to the northwest corner where a red switch resides. Slash this switch so the red blocks are lowered.

Now use a Bombchu to travel through the small hole, around the bend, and hit the crystal switch on the other side of the blue blocks. Once you let the Bombchu go you will want to slash the switch next to you again once the Bombchu has made it passed the red blocks. The spikes to your north will be lowered and you can proceed!

Walk around the bend to find four Armos circled around a patch of quicksand. Defeat the Armos with bombs. Once all 4 have been disabled push them onto each of the 4 floor switches in this area.

Another set of spikes will be lowered to your east. Follow this new pathway to another set of stairs. Head up the stairs to floor B2!

Basement 2

Upon entering this floor step on the floor switch to your west to create a shortcut. Walk east and into the next room. The door will close behind you and two Hinox will appear. Defeat them and continue northward.

Now that you are in the large room at the northern portion of this floor you will see a crystal switch. Ignore this now and head east and then north towards the spikes. Defeat any enemies in your way and stand at the spikes.

From these spikes use a Bombchu and trace a path around the center platform, hitting the crystal switch you saw before. Once the switch is hit run west past the spikes.

At the far western portion of this area there are two crystal switches. You will need to defeat the Eye Slugs that are nearby with either your sword or bow. Then use your Bombchus to trace a path across the quicksand, hitting one of the switches. This may take a few tries as there are many rocks and Eye Slugs in your way. After you’ve hit both switches a large chest will appear.

Walk back to the spikes you crossed earlier and use another Bombchu to hit the crystal switch at the entrance of this room like you did before. The spikes will lower and you will want to walk east.

Head up to the platform and open the large chest to obtain the Boss Key! Carry the key to the stairs at the southern part of this floor, and return to floor B3 where the locked door resides.

Enter the locked door and head down the stairs. Once you’ve reached this new floor break any pots to replenish your supplies. You should also read the stone tablet at the west side of this room to create a blue warp to the temple entrance.

Walk through the door and prepare to fight the boss of this temple, Dongorongo.

Entering the room you will find that you cannot get into the main boss arena. Thankfully Gongoron is here to help. While controlling Gongoron be careful of enemies attacking Link. Ciela will yell out a class “Hey!” if Link is under attack. If this is the case switch back to Link, defeat the enemy, and go back to using Gongoron.

While rolling around as Gongoron your goal will be to slam into the side of the boss. The easiest way to do this is while the boss charges Gongoron, leaving it stunned for a moment. When this happens keep tapping on the side of the boss until it is completely toppled over. Switch back to Link and equip your Bombchus. Trace a path using your Bombchus right into the mouth of the boss. Repeat this process until Dongorongo appears to be defeated.

Gongoron will leave the room and a bridge will appear. Cross the bridge and Dongorongo will come back to life. During this final phase of the battle you will need to avoid any fireballs thrown at you, and any Eye Slugs wandering the room. When the boss inhales throw a bomb directly into its mouth, causing it to be stunned. Slash the blue weak spot on its back until it stands back up again. Repeat this process until Dongorongo is defeated!

After defeating the boss you will be rewarded with 2 more minutes of time in your hourglass, as well as a Heart Container in a large chest. Open the chest and proceed through the door to your north. Talk with Gongoron to obtain the pure metal, Crimsonine.

Step into the blue warp portal and return to the outside world! After being warped outside head to the Goron Elder’s house. He will give you a Big Rupee and set you on your way!
