Music Monday: Anouki Village

Music Monday

Hi there, Universe! Long time no see, right? Well, I am back, and I have a couple of tracks that will make your Monday a bit more musical! Today we focus on winter in the Zelda universe, because it’s almost time for spring, so let’s ignore the inevitable change of seasons and pretend the sun that is blinding us when we leave our gamer-caves is covered by snowy clouds.

It’s no secret that I love me some Spirit Tracks, and recently I reorchestrated “Anouki Village’s Theme” into a less terrible song. I mean, there is something charming about Anouki Village; what with the magical half-raindeer-half-penguin guys waddling around and all that snow, right? Anouki Village is one of my favourite places to hang out in Spirit Tracks, solely because of the atmosphere. It’s a pretty bland place, and has pretty bad music if you ask me, but I think my interpretation might have solved that pesky music problem. After my masterpiece*, I found a delightfully new and inventive remix of the “Ice Cavern Theme” from Ocarina of Time that sounds like it should be playing in the world’s coolest Zelda lounge ever in the history of the world. Seriously, this remix is one of a kind and is spectacular. Hit the jump to hear both, and my respective thoughts on both!

*Masterpiece doesn’t describe my song, it describes that Ice Cavern remix. I just need a self esteem boast.  Read the rest of this post >>

Majora’s Mask is remixed in “Flyrule 2: A Terrible Fate”

Flyrule 2

After his amazing Ocarina of Time remix album in 2011, named “Flyrule“, skilled musician/Zelda fan Shag is back. Of course, the only way to create a true sequel to such an album would be by remixing the game sequel, Majora’s Mask.

“Flyrule 2: A Terrible Fate” hosts 10 tracks of sweet Zelda beats, opening with the mystical rendition of “Song of Healing” and closing with a soothing interpretation of “Zora’s Hall”. It’s truly amazing and unbelievably relaxing, and even surpasses the previous album’s quality (pssst… just like how MM surpassed Ocarina! You heard me).

You can listen for free by streaming on the artist’s Bandcamp, or if you’d like to download your own copy of the album, you can again pitch in with an open price tag. Please be as generous as you can – the guy has earned it!

Music Tuesday: Outset Island

Ahoy, Universe! Today we be talkin’ like talkin like pirates, so all aboard, and get ready for your Tuesday to get a bit more musical! Today, I have a special, long-overdue treat for you all! Finally, after months, and months… I have a ZeldaTunes to entertain you! I know it’s been ages, but I think this ZeldaTunes has been worth the wait!

It’s no secret I am a big fan of Wind Waker, and yet again, I find myself in awe, of some of what I think is the best Zelda music in the series. So, because of my love of adventure on the high seas, I have a special ZeldaTunes, an orchestration of Outset Island, and then a phenomenal 8-bit remix of one of Wind Waker’s most popular songs: Dragon Roost Island! To hear both of these, and have some fun, hit the jump!

Music Monday: More Marimba

Happy Music Monday! Or, Happy Day Before E3 Day! I’m Rusty, and you are probably just as excited about E3 as I am! Today, I will try to distract you (probably unsuccessfully) from the excitement, and share some amazing Zelda fan music! If you are a follower of me on Youtube, you know I am a big user of the marimba in my arrangements. What can I say, I love me some marimba, buddy. So, that is our Music Monday focus for today!

I have found two fantastic marimba medleys, one from the best music of Ocarina of Time, and the other a random assortment of popular Zelda music, played at a school music show! To view these amazing videos, hit the jump, and prepare to have your mind blown by the sheer awesomeness.

Music Monday: Big Bird

Hello, Universe! Today, we shine the Music Monday spotlight on Skyward Sword! While playing through the game, I after I stopped swooning over the amazing music, I started swooning over the gameplay, but there was one mechanic that irritated me, and I honestly don’t know if it’s just me, because I’m Wii inept, or if the controls flying the Loftwing were irritating for everyone. I love flying around on my Loftwing, don’t get me wrong-’cause there ain’t nothin’ like flying on a big red bird, buddy. But, unfortunately that particular aspect of the controls was a bit lost on me.

So, I have two fantastic songs to share with you: one, that gives 8-bit charm a whole new meaning, and the other, a beautiful piano arrangement of the “Crimson Loftwing’s Theme” that is pretty freaking awesome. To hear both of those, and read my respective thoughts on each, hit the jump, and prepare to be amazed.

Music Wednesday: Water

Hey, Universe! Welcome to another jaw-dropping, earth-shaking, mind blowing edition of Music Monday, on Wednesday! Today, we shine the Music Wednesday spotlight on one of my favourite places in the Zelda universe, and an amazing Zelda melody that is just pretty darn awesome.

Now, if you’ve been following Music Monday for a while, you’ll know I have a thing for Skyward Sword’s music, in particular, the location themes. I love Faron Woods. I also love Faron Woods when a crazy-blue-dragon-guy floods it and makes me swim around collecting tadpole that sing. It’s just all around fun times in the Faron Woods. First, there’s that amazing Zelda melody I was talking about earlier, that rocks, really, really hard. After that, to calm you down after the sheer awesomeness of the Zelda melody, the beautiful “Flooded Faron Woods Theme”. For both of those, hit the jump!  Read the rest of this post >>

Music Monday: Sad Zelda

Hey, Universe! I’m Rusty, here with no adjective to describe this Music Monday! Today, we take a somber look at Zelda, because let’s face it, even a hero like Link has his bad days. Tomorrow, ZeldaUniverse says goodbye to both Bastian and Timothy, which really stinks, because Bastian is a fantastic editor and Timothy is an awesome news poster, and they are both great friends. So, what better to celebrate Bastian and Timothy’s time at ZU than with some incredible Zelda songs?!

First, we have one of my personal favorites from The Wind Waker, “Grandma’s Theme” which, for the minute and forty seconds it runs for, is really emotional, but at the same time manages to always make me smile. Second, I have found a great flute cover of an incredibly popular song we all know and love from Majora’s Mask, “Song of Healing”! Hit the jump for both of those!  Read the rest of this post >>

Music Monday: I’m Back!

So, undoubtedly, as everybody’s favourite columnist I’ve upset quite a few people by disappearing suddenly, but have no fear, because I am back with a brand spanking new Music Monday! Over the past two weeks I have been mass-cleaning my house, and getting it painted, so with a lot of (vaguely) free time on my hands I cracked open one of my favourite Zelda games, and restarted one of the most loathed video games in the Zelda franchise: The Phantom Hourglass. I still to this day find it hard to understand why people seem to dislike Phantom Hourglass, but that’s a whole other topic, and today, we shine the Music Monday spotlight of awesomeness on Phantom Hourglass’s music!

Regardless of how you feel about Phantom Hourglass, it’s music is pretty darn great. I have two awesome remixes from Phantom Hourglass to share with all of you! The first is a triple threat, a remix of both “Oshus’s Theme”, “The Ocean King’s Theme” and the “Ocean Theme” that plays in Wind Waker! Second, a short, but sweet remix of “Linebeck’s Theme” that was remixed into a fantastic 8-bit NES styled song! To hear both of those, hit the jump!

Music Monday: Link’s Awakening

Hey, Universe! I am Rusty, and once again, I am bringing you a new Music Monday! Today we shine the Music Monday spotlight on a game I have only played twice, and have never bothered to complete: Link’s Awakening! I have no compelling reason for my lack of interest in this classic Zelda game, but, I admit, the music in Link’s Awakening does interest me quite a bit!

I have two phenomenal songs for you today, one, an amazing piano and violin duet cover of my personal favourite song from Link’s Awakening, “Ballad of the Wind Fish” and a superb remix of the “Southern Face Shine’s theme”, by a good friend of mine! To get a listen to both of these, you can hit the jump!

Music Monday: Groose

Hello, Universe! I am back from vacation, and I have a shiny new Music Monday for you all! Today, we focus on an amazing boss theme, and and equally amazing piano cover of “Groose’s Theme” from Skyward Sword!

Bosses are very, very important to the Zelda series, and what’s a boss fight, without a boss theme? All boss themes in Zelda are interesting and usually suit the baddy you fight, and Bilocyte’s theme from Skyward Sword is no exception to that rule! Way back in November, when I got the Skyward Sword OST I was wondering which boss theme I would take a liking to most, and soon, that was answered. The “Bilocyte Boss Theme” is jaw-dropping, and so epic! But today is not only about my personal favourite boss theme! I think it’s about time I gave Groose some attention, because with that hair, Goddesses’ know he deserves it.

“Groose’s Theme” became an instant favourite for me, and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea why. the song is incredibly catchy, and it suits our bumbling red-haired friend perfectly. So, to hear both of these fantastic songs, hit the jump!  Read the rest of this post >>

Music Monday: Ocarina time

Hey there, Universe! I’m Rusty, here once again to bring you another Music Monday, in which all of your wildest dreams will come true!* Today, we shine the Music Monday spotlight on Ocarina of Time! easily the most well known, and classic Zelda game. What is a video game without music? Dull. What is a video game with music, and musical instruments in the game? Awesome! The music of Ocarina of Time, I think is some of the best in the entire series, and with an instrument in the game, it just gets better.

Today, I have two fantastic videos for you, the “Title Theme” from Ocarina of Time covered on an Ocarina, and an amazing cover of “Song of Storms” on the marimba! So pull out your Ocarina, hit the jump, and join in!

*Your wildest dreams will not come true from reading this column. Sorry to have to tell you that.

Music Monday: Lake Hylia and Hats

Hello, Universe! I am Rusty, once again bringing you another Music Monday! Today, our Music Monday spotlight shines on one of my favourite games, The Minish Cap! The music in this game is wonderful, and perfect to fit the teeny tiny adventures of Link and Ezlo. The Minish Cap’s music is some of the most remixable in the series, I think, and I can assure you someday you’ll be seeing a Minish Cap ZeldaTunes from me!

But until that day arrives, I’m sure you can make do with a fabulous ZeldaTunes, and my personal favourite song from The Minish Cap, “Minish Woods.” To hear my rendition of “Lake Hylia” from Twilight Princess covered on piano, and “Minish Woods”, hit the jump!  Read the rest of this post >>

Music Monday: Fi and the Silent Realm

Without a doubt, Skyward Sword quickly became one of my top three favourite Zelda games. The story is wonderful, the graphics are stunning… and the music is heavenly. I can’t even tell you how many times I have listened to the Skyward Sword soundtrack since release, but I can tell you that I love it.

I am Rusty, and I’m glad you’ve stuck around for another Music Monday! This week’s theme is, obviously Skyward Sword. I have two things to show you today, the first; a brand new ZeldaTunes, and the second, a song I have recently come to love from the Skyward Sword soundtrack. For all of this, you can hit the jump!  Read the rest of this post >>

Music Monday: Stone Tower Temple

Hello, Universe! This is Rusty, once again bringing you another awkward edition of Music Monday! Today we shine the Music Monday spotlight on two games: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Majora’s Mask! I am really excited to share my new ZeldaTunes with you, this time, a re-orchestrated version of “Stone Tower Temple!” And after that, a phenomenal medley of the music of Zelda II!

A few weeks ago, I covered an amazing remix of “Stone Tower Temple”, by an OverClocked ReMixer. The theme of Stone Tower Temple has got to be one of my new favourites, and I’m glad I got to add my own touch to it, and a few unique twists and turns. To hear both of these, and enjoy a Monday afternoon musical pick-me-up, hit the jump!  Read the rest of this post >>

Music Monday: the world of Twilight Princess

Hello, Universe! I am Rusty, here to bring you another fabulous Music Monday!

Today we put the spotlight on one of my favourite Zelda games, Twilight Princess, which still remains a huge source of inspiration to me. The game is fantastic, the art is fantastic, and the music does not disappoint at all. The music in Twilight Princess is some of my favourite in the entire series, and–I believe–is some of the most creative in the history of Hyrule.

The music in Twilight Princess draws, from what I think is a mixture of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, and like them, conveys the emotion of the game, yet refreshes what bits and pieces it took from other games. I am very happy to say I have a ZeldaTunes for you this week, a re-orchestration of “Kakariko Village.” After that, I have a fantastic piano cover of “Lake Hylia!” To hear these, you can hit the jump!

Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland was released only in Japan and Europe, never making it to the USA due to lackluster sales. Guided by the mysterious figure Uncle Rupee, Tingle fills a mystical spring with money and gain access to the wonderful Rupeeland, a paradise where nobody has to work. Along the way, hire body guards to protect Tingle – but from what? All may not be as it seems in Tingle’s quest for monetary gain, and Rupeeland just might not be so rosy after all...
Unfortunately, Zelda Universe has no guides right now for Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. We're in the process of developing our first guide for this game, however, to check back soon!
