Sorry that I haven’t updated that mailbag in a while, but you know how it is. I am working on a comeback again, but I’ve said that many times in the past. These date all the way back to January, so if the question seems outdated, that’s why.

Z-MAN7 writes:

An idea popped in my head not too long ago you see I watched “The Dark Crystal” a 1982 fantasy film by Jim Henson. What was so unqie about the movie was that all the characters were higly detailed, realistic looking puppets. Now I thought hmm what if the Zelda movie was made in this fashion? If you think about it, it might work when you look at the characters like Link whom seems like a doll or puppet in a sense. I just think this would be a better option to do besides make it in an anime style or turn it into a CGI film with an over sized budget. Tell me what do you think? could Henson studios pull it off?

James writes:

Well, consider this. That was 1982, and that’s really all they had to work with back in that day. While they could pull of puppets, I don’t think it fit the series as well as live action, anime, or CGI could accomplish. Puppetry is good for comedy and what Sesame Street or shows of that nature, but not for Zelda.

drakano writes:

i am probably one of the many who think having a whale as the “ocean king” is kinda crap , but the game was made in japan and do the japanese not hunt whales? in the news about a week or two ago there was something about some japanese whale hunters being found /p>

James writes:

Yes they did hunt whales in Japan, but as I just read they are trying to stop that. I don’t think the Ocean King being a whale is a bad thing. If you think a ruler of the ocean, you think a very large creature like a whale.

TwilightHaze writes:

The guide for Phantom Hourglass seems rather to very short… Is it going to be updated soon?

James writes:

That whole section is being worked on…well, we are trying to work on it. But you know how it is (well you wouldn’t, but you could take a good guess).

Samantha writes:

I LOVE zelda phantom of the hourglass. But I need your help I can`t get past at the part drawing the sacred crest!PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE …..help me please.I REALLY need help!

P.S.Zelda is the coolest game EVER made!!!

James writes:

That depends on which part you are on, and if you need my help anymore. But, in order to through that door, you need to draw an hourglass without lifting the pen off the screen for the first crest, and a triforce for the second time around. Hopefully, we’ll get some images up soon to help out.

James writes:

whats your opinion on who would win if ganon fought vaati in minish form?

James writes:

Ganondorf has the experience, being the thorn in the side of us Zelda fans for year. I also see him as more powerful, with his magic and/or his pig form. Ganondorf would totally win.

Milorad writes:

You in the ZU would agree with me when I say that the next zelda game to come out should have a multiplayer areana? I’m not sure about the rest of you but personally I think it would be more fun to test your abilities as a swordsman/woman against other people instead of only computer, enemy units who go down very easily. Even those armoured mini-boss knights (from TP for those of you who don’t know) don’t seem to much of a challenge, even fighting four of them at once. I want to face a more intelligent and worthy foe, someone with similar abilities as mine, and who can respond better than computerised units who simply run at you and swing their weapons wildly at you attempting to hit you. I think fighting an opponent with unique fighting styles and a range of weapons (bows, clawshots, ball and chain) at their disposal will be far more interesting and exicting than regular bad-guys.

On a different topic I have seen some ideas for new weapons suggested by zelda fans in ZU, and I must say (without pointing out any individuals) that just saying a bunch of weapons at random thinking that they will cool to see, must understand that suggesting new weapons is ok but you must say why. This is because all the weapons in every zelda game limit our proud hero Link in pretty much every area. Places and new areas or rooms in dungeons must be unexcessable until the required weapons is acquired. The weapon must be unique such as the ’spin top’ in TP, I wasn’t expecting it. I was shocked when I saw it for the first time. It limits you in the dungeon and four different uses; moving over sand and snow, travelling along rails on the walls, attacking enemies (not that effective, only against large swarms of rats) and to power anicent gear machines.

Also I would prefer it if they did bring back the magnetic gloves from OoS. I think someone already suggested it but I am supporting their idea. And they could look Ashei’s gloves form TP (not sure about name spelling), they were massive!

When I had finished the second level in TP and discovered that you could combine bombs with the bow+arrows I straight away tried to equip the lantern with the bow+arrows. I thought that that was how you would get fire arrows. It was a bit disapointing.

I have other comments and ideas but I don’t want to make this to long for you all.

Thanks for reading.

James writes:

For you multiplayer idea, I would love to see one, but it’s going to take some tweaking and working to figure out a suitable one. When I think fighting multiplayer, I think Brawl, which you can use certain Zelda characters in.

You’re right, I think us fans have the best idea for what we would love to see, but the final decision is on the developers.

Why was it disappointing? You really can’t expect every weapon from every game to make it back into future games. There are some limits.

Salad Fingers writes:

I’m am sending this to you to just test this mailbag. I do have a question… When it asks your name, doesit mean your username,or your real name?

James writes:

Whatever you choose. But you must remember internet etiquitte and not give out your full real name unless you absolutely have to.

patrick quinlan writes:

Is there a platform or hardware I can buy to get Zelda: A Link To The Past on my pocket pc. If there is a way can you e mail me how. I love this game and have been searching and searching but cannot find it. Just for SNES, Gameboy/Adv, ext.. Any information even if it can’t be done would be greatly appreciated. It would let me know i am looking for something that doesn’t exists. Thank You

James writes:

Pocket PC like a Palm Pilot or iPhone or what? If you’re talking ROMs, I can’t legally send you anywhere, as you can’t download commercial ROMs. They don’t make a version that I know of yet.

I know, I know. It’s been a while since I answered your questions, but you know… stuff happens. I found out that I do indeed have a life. But, you know, with the lack of stuff on ZU nowadays, I figured it will be nice to come back and help out a little bit. Even though I work five days a week, going back to school for three days, interning at a local paper for 2-3 days a week, and finding time for my girlfriend.

But you know. I will find some time to help out here. I am hoping to get some more PH content out. This way Jason doesn’t freak out with the less content and the more effort. So, you will be seeing me a lot more in days to come.

So enjoy this mailbag. It’s just the start. I’ll be back.

So, whenever you updated the Phantom Hourglass page with the characters/enemies/bosses/items/etc, I have a pretty nice enemy FAQ with bosses… You can use it.

Also, how come in the midi sections, some songs aren’t from the CD (TP, I believe), but some are (WW)?

James writes:

Thanks for the offer, but I plan on writing up the Boss page/FAQ soon. It is on my list of things to do. Trust me. No, really…

That’s because I believe in the MIDI section, there are some fan made songs, therefore you wouldn’t hear them on the CD’s.

Wasn’t there some rumor a long, long, icredibly loonng time ago that there would be some sort of upgrade for the wii rhat would allow it to play DVDs.(you know, movies). the ps2 and ps3 can both do that, and i’m jelous.

James writes:

When the Wii was first coming out, it was announced that it wouldn’t have DVD playback. But, everyone insisted that in the near future, there would be an add-on that would allow it.
James writes:

If this is what you are talking about, someone posted last April Fool’s Day that Nintendo would take a different direction with Zelda and make it futuristic. It was a lie, since it was April 1.

If that’s not it, there have been several sites out there that claim that Nintendo is working on the next Wii Zelda, but they haven’t said anything about it yet. We’ll keep you posted on that as well.

zoovet11073 writes:

James writes:

I apologize for the rest of the mailbag when I say this: Most of these emails are from around November. So sorry.

Anyway, we will post anything about a new Zelda if we see it. Hopefully.

Okay, so in Phantom Hourglass, what’s up with the Ocean King being a whale in his true form?? Of all things, a whale..? Is there a connection to the Wind Fish who was also a giant whale from Link’s Awakening?

James writes:

I would buy something like that! What do you think?

James writes:

Not really. The game ending the way it did really didn’t ask for a sequel. Hence, the reason Majora’s Mask was made in an alternate dimension and not in Hyrule.

I’ve got a few things to say.

First off, SSb. Brawl. In SSb. Melee, a new charachter was young link. he was ecentially( i know i spelled that wrong) a different version of link. the link from OoT. this time, however, they are using TP Link. are you thinking what I’m thinking? could they possibly make Wolflink a playable character in Brawl? makes ya think, dont it.

Next, i know this isn’t zelda related and i know this is not the site for this kinda thing, but have you heard anything about Mario galaxy? its supposed to come out next month, and all I know about it is that it takes placein space, from the tittle of course. you keep us updated on brawl, so why not mario galaxy?

last, this is really random and pointless, but the other day, a wierd thought came to me. this isn’t a rumor i’ve heard or am atemping to start. just imagine if they made a zelda tradeing card game! wouldn’t that be wierd!. personally i think it would be stupid. the majority of them would be weak, common enemies that need absalutly no strategy t beat. plus the games change too much. what’s your opinion?

(In a second email)how come you haven’t updated your comics section? there are alot more zelda comics than just Hyrularity and ALTTP comic. other zelda sites have alot more. im not trying to make you feel bad, but zelda legends has a comic version of almost every zelda game there is. almost. so why
don’t you?

alright thats it until next time. sorry it was so long. may the tri-force be with you.

James writes:

First off: That would be an interesting idea. However, I would probably see it as more of a transformation at Zelda was to Shiek. But, I believe Link’s moves were posted. I would like to see it, so we’ll see.

Next: We wouldn’t keep you updated on Mario Galaxy because it’s an exclusively Mario game, whereas Smash incorporates the Zelda characters into it. You can check out other sites like The Mushroom Kingdom for more.

Last (though not really): I don’t know… It would be unique, but I truly believe there are way too many TCG’s out there.

Second email: I think we haven’t updated because we currently don’t have the time. I’ll add it to the list of things to do.

Here’s my rather peculiar theory, Bowser instructed his minions to go get DK and Diddy Kong super angry, stealing of bananas and trying to blow them up might work, then lead them straight towards the Stadium. It’s an odd theory, and it would take a genius and a hopeful person that Bowser CAN be portrayed as “looking to keep the world safe, at least until he can conquer it.” This would make sense, right? I realize that THIS has nothing to do with Link, but perhaps Link and Ganondorf are drawn to the Stadium by Zelda? Sonic and Eggman are also a possible though unlucky team. It makes sense if you look at my quotation marked area.

Do you have a favorite Zelda type of question?

I’m currenty replaying WW to eat up the few days between now and when PH releases and I’ve been noticing things mostly little useless details but I have one thing that I’d like your thoughts on. When you receve the Hero’s Sword from Orca he says that the “blade is infused with the desire to good and cast down evil” or something to that effect does that mean that the Hero’s Sword is actually magically enchanted? Or do you think he just speaks of the sword’s heoretical soul and what it represents? Or is it something else all together?

James writes:

Favorite type of Zelda question? Hmm… If you are referring to mailbag questions, usually anything that is trivia based; something I can answer right off the top of my head. I don’t know…Well, he is a sword guru. He is probably just being metaphorical.

My point is about the Oracles games. Sure, they might be the least remembered Zelda games ever, but why hasn’t Nintendo made more references to them?

Apart from fleeting points I hear on some sites, they might as well not exist.

Sure, they might only have been portable games, but they had some of the best items (switch hook, roc’s cape) and supporting characters (Maple, Ralph) in the entire series!

I really hope more people get to know about those great games, and that Nintendo uses some elements of them (Labrynna, etc.) for the Wii.

Thoughts?

James writes:

The Game Boy franchise seems to really have a mind of its own.
Ok, just a quick comment on your reply to 950’s question form the last mailbag about how how the hyrule overworld has changed between games. I think the real reason they do this is most obviously, to give the gamer a new land to exlpore, the creators new areas and scope for the game and so on.

As for your idea about continental drift, well to be frank, its not a good idea. Geogrpahically speaking since hyrule has an active volcano in the form of Death Mountian is has to be near a plate boundary, and so in theory maybe new land could be formed. However this process takes MILLIONS of year to take place. For example America and Eurpoe are moving apart at about the same rate that your fingernails grow. So whilst this could be whats changing and explaning Hyrule if we want to be all technical, tyhat would mean that OoT and TP took place millions of years apart, not a very likely feat.

Sorry about that geogpraphy rate but i just finished my A-Level in it and so thought i should point out this. Then agian as i said before its only a game, so this sorta thing probably is not very realivant to Zelda. Keep up the good work on the site!!

James writes:

You also assume that Hyrule is on Earth. You need to watch more sci-fi or anything that takes place on another planet. Different rules for different places. But, who knows. I guess I am trying to find a good excuse for my poor geography skills .

Smart Guy writes:

Why do people think Ganondorf dies at the end of most Zelda games? If he could be killed, why would Link spend so much time sealing him in OOT? I think it is obvious the triforce of power gave him immortality (he doesn’t age).

Next, Ganondorf didn’t lose the triforce of power in TP, it just faded. Remember, he still has it in TWW, and the three pieces never came together in TP. Even in TWW, when he gets stabbed in the head without his triforce piece, he turned into stone which to me represents another form of sealing. He must have kept his immortality. Unlike Link, there is only one Ganondorf.

My point is, I believe Ganondorf’s spirit must have been sealed with his triforce of power leaving his body behind in TP. What do you think?

James writes:

That is possible. If you believe in the split timeline (which was confirmed true), TP and TWW take place in separate timelines. Therefore, it is possible that TP is the end of one timeline, while tWW is close to the end of the other. It is a plot device to keep killing Ganon, because he is almost always the final boss. It’s just the way it is.

Hey, the latest mailbag’s timeline content re-interested me in the theories, and I went to read the ZU one. It’s a good theory, but needs to be updated to include TP, and mayby PH. Aswell, is there any evidence that suggests the oracle mini series (OoA, OoS, and LA) couldn’t be placed after MM, since even in the ZU theory it isnt perfectly placed, and it would help to explain a little bit of Link I life after MM. Keep up the awsome work on the site!

James writes:
That timeline is REALLY outdated. We need to find someone who would be willing to update the timeline. Maybe rewrite it up and make it look pretty. Maybe that was a request *winkwink*.

I just wanted to tell you it’s a great honor of people like you that keep up such a friendly site. Being here for about 2 years or so, I found the atmosphere of wise and cool people to the MAX! I just want to tell you guys rock! If it weren’t for this place, I wouldn’t have much to do on the world of the Internet, so I’m just telling you guys should be rewarded somehow with all the endless work, modding the forums, and the bills you have to pay to keep it all running. Oh, yeah, I have it…IMAGINARY PIZZA PIE WITH A 5 DOLLAR GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL PENS!!!!

Anyways, this is for questions, so here it goes:
1.) In OoT, the guy at the windmill in the future says that in the past, some really “wicked child” played the “Song of Storms”, even if you don’t do it et! Is this a minor error to the game or is there something behind it?
2.) How do you find the Triforce?!…Just kidding!!!! I just wanted to know if there was once thing about Zelda games that bother you, what is it. Besides the CD-i installments. THOSE are a curse *shudders*
3.) What are your opinions of a Zelda Anime? Do you think it would work for humanity, or result in a barbecued trash can, like the Super Mario Brothers Movie?and finally…
4.) I’ve heard rumors that this site was for sale! I many have gotten the name wrong, but in case, I’m seriously worried because this is a great place. PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!!!!!!

James writes:
Thanks for the compliments. I know I feel guilty when the site isn’t updated enough, but we try. Thanks for the free pizza and pens! Anyway, to questions!:
1. Funny that you mention that because I have a weird theory on that matter, but I am more using it as an out in Fan Fiction. It works, but it’s also an interesting theory to. I will let you know when I post up my Fiction for ZuNoWriMo.
2. Don’t joke about finding the Triforce, man. Not cool. As for you question, that’s a good question. I think that many the thing that bothers me is introducing and item and not using it enough in the game. The best example is the Spinner in TP. You use that thing to the max in Arbiter’s Grounds, but basically nowhere else.
3. Hmm… I think in order for Zelda Anime to work, it would have be made in collaboration with Nintendo. If you just send off to a production company and say run with it, I don’t think it would work. That, and I don’t know what canon to use in an Anime. I’m split.
4. How do I say this. I believe the site was for sale a while back. I do know that Jason (GoldenChaos) bought the site, even after his absense and all the drama behind him leaving. I am glad he’s back and he has some awesome ideas to bring this site back to it’s former glory. I hope in the near future, this site is better than what it is.
On the topic of Gerudos, I don’t think Ganondorf represents your tipical one. So you might want swith that picture of him in the races of Hyrule.

Sooo…. I don’t think there is any connection to the two. Does any in either tribe look like the other? If some looked like a combo of the two, I could see it.

For your Gerudo race thing: Ganondorf is the most notable Gerudo of the bunch, which is why his picture is there. We COULD change it up. We’ll see.

I’d like to clarify a few things from my last mailbag question that either were unclear or misinterpreted. I loved Twilight Princess and the Hyrule it captured, so I’m not sure where the tangent regarding a general disliking came from in the answer to my last inquiry. I wanted to know whether you think that the developers behind Zelda Wii will attempt a larger world as opposed to a thicker world. What I mean by that is: will they use the extent of the Wii’s technology to create a vast, open world (which, in my opinion, seemed to be exemplified by early shots of Twilight Princess) with less in it in the way of explorable holes and such sidetracks, or will they focus on a world smaller in volume, but much more full of things to do. I know you don’t know what they’ll do, but that’s why I was asking which you think they would do; your best guess, I suppose. Also, please note that I only refer to Hyrule’s geography style, not the gameplay or what else was spoken of in the last answer.

And to clarify the difference I see between Twilight Princess and Ocarinca of time: Ocarina of Time seemed to attempt to capture a more open, realistic Hyrule (as much as they could at the time). When viewing from Hyrule Field, Death Mountain was rendered as a background to appear distant, while in Twilight Princess Death Mountain seems to appear closer and mountains generally appear unrealistically shaped. Overall, I felt that Ocarina of Time headed in a more realistic direction than Twilight Princess, not that either is superior. Thanks.

Forget Myspace, we should make ZU into like a gamer’s dating service — where Zelda fans can find people close to them and get together! I always wanted a gamer chick, and they’re dead hard to find in real life, if you catch my drift.

Anyway, I’d be happy to take 10% for this killer idea.

Im really worried that the look link adapted in wind waker is going to overtake the more realistic and dark look which started with ocarina of time and went onto twilight princess. its an ok look but it obviously wouldnt suit the dark atmosphere that zelda has come to mold around over the last fiew games (excluding the four swords series and phantom hourglass) Do you think they’re just going to switch between them now and then which is what they’ve been doing (so far anyway)?

James writes:
I think that since more gamers want realism, that style will probably win out on most of the games. I think it also depends on what direction the game is taking. If a game requires a darker storyline, use real. If it’s a more “cartoony” like adventure game, use Wind Waker. I don’t know. All I know is that I like the art style of the Wind Waker. People tend to whine about how cartoony it is, when in reality, it’s brillant. Emotions are seen better in that game, reactions are well-timed, and the game is fun to play.

not really a question as much as a notation. Ocarina of time and twilight princess are based in the same place: hyrule. Yet somthing that bothered or rather annoyed me is that they changed the layout of hyrule completely! I guess they didnt want to seem lazy and use the same *roles eyes* but i thought that it might add a bit more authenticity to the game, what are your views in this, was it a good idea?

James writes:
I think the best answer would be either continental drift, or kingdom expansion. You know the story of Earth: This planet was one huge continent that split to seven over time, and they are still drifting to this day? Who’s to say that the landmass that is Hyrule didn’t connect into the Peak Province and everywhere else that wasn’t “in Ocarina of Time”. That, and a lot can happen over the time period it took from Ocarina and Twilight Princess. I think it was a good idea, because to me, Hyrule Field in Ocarina of Time was… small. In Twilight Princess, there was plenty to explore, but it truly didn’t take away from the feel of the game.

But, it pays the imaginary bills, I suppose. Like I have stated many times before: I think that the timeline was not truly conceived until Ocarina of Time when Miyamoto tried to connect all the games before it by saying that Ocarina was first. I could be wrong, but it seems that only those games after Ocarina of Time seem to fit in a timeline. OoT-MM-TP-tWW-PH fit perfectly, TMC-FS-FSA fit perfectly. LoZ-AoL fit together, ALttP and maybe LA fit together, and the Oracles fit together. There might be an overall timeline of events, but I truly do not see it, and probably won’t until it is finally revealed.

Hi! I’ve been confused with a couple of Zelda stuff. First is about Twilight Princess. In the begining of the game after you get sucked into twilight and meet Midna, she’s all giggly and has a sly personality. Was she trying to cover up her true identity?

Second is about TP again, after you defeat Ganon and he makes his final comments and you hear the backgroung music that sounds like angels singing, you see Zant, “the King of Twilight”, crack his neck and finishes Ganon off. I thought Link and Midna finished him off. Where’d he come from?

Lastly, at the end of TP Midna says her last words to Link and Zelda before she gets herself beamed back to the Twilight Palace, she says, “Link….. I…….. See you later.” Do you think Midna was about to say,” I love you.” to Link?

Thank you for listening and I hope you’ll answer these qwestions that will end my “Zelda Confusion”.

James writes:
Firstly: No, I believe she was as blunt as she wanted to be. She found you and was using you from the very beginning. She didn’t hold that back too much, but she didn’t entirely spill the beans that she was the Twilight Princess, nor that she was using you as a pawn. Over the course of the game, though, you do effect her enough that she opens up a little more to you and seems to act a little nicer.

Secondly: Zant was being controlled by Ganondorf, and vice versa. Ganondorf came into the Twilight Realm after being banished and found the first living thing to possess. He just so happened to find Zant, and used him to take over the Twilight Realm. Zant overthrew Midna, and started taking over Hyrule. However, Link went through and defeated Zant and then Ganondorf. Since Ganondorf was living via both the life of Zant and the Triforce, both the Triforce would need to leave Ganon and Zant be truly destroyed in order for Ganondorf to be dead. Once the Triforce leaves Ganondorf, the image of Zant cracking his neck (to me) is more of a metaphor for the player that Ganondorf is now dead. That is how I see it, and I am probably going to get some emails about that. But, I accept theories as well.

Lastly: It’s possible. If she was thinking about saying it, she then realized that it couldn’t be, therefore smashed the mirror and sealed the pathway. This is another of those quotes that can be taken different ways, like the ALttP quote by Link’s uncle. You know, the one that people assumed said that Zelda was Link’s sister.

I hope I ended your confusion, and didn’t add to it.

My question is relatively simple: do you think that the team behind Zelda will utilize the Wii’s power to create a larger, more expansive world (as seen in Ocarina of Time) –possibly to generate a feeling of vastness– or do you think the development team will attempt a more full, stylized world (as seen in Twilight Princess) to portray a world that is more rich with detail? Also, which do you want them to do?

James writes:
Your question isn’t relatively simple, I can’t tell which they would go for. Besides, I can’t see where you see a difference in both Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, because I didn’t. The only difference I really saw was a bigger Hyrule Field, and dungeons that were a little bit bigger. Other than that, they played pretty much the same. I would like to see a game that was Twilight Princess again. I don’t understand why some people complained about Twilight Princess. It was the perfect blend of difficulty and fun mixed together. The story could’ve been tweaked a little bit, but it was an overall good game. So, if I were to answer your question personally, I would choose another Twilight Princess like game.

i was just wandering on your opinion whether it would be way too foolhardy to make a zelda like story/book (not fanfiction cause it wouldn’t be zelda), for example putting in some of the key elements of oot with the time traveling or mm with the masks. though i really dont know your experiance with writing, what would you think basically of bringing zelda into the littery world, the feel of zelda but not zelda if you get my point.

Hi, I sent in a timeline theory last week regarding the placement of characters due to their evolutions. Your response was: “So if you could also take the koroks for instance, they shouldn’t appear in any game that is placed in the same time line as TP.” That sentence doesn’t place well with me. Just because a new race is introduced in the timeline doesn’t mean that it must be a different timeline. Look at our history. We are supposedly descended from Apes, which is in the same timeline. Evolution in Zelda is the same way. Another way races can appear in different games is the split timeline. If the Rito’s appear in one timeline, they may have never evolved in the other (since the Great Flood only appears in one timeline).

I don’t get why you didn’t except that sentence? I was saying the same thing as what you just stated about the Rito. What I ment was that the Koroks should only appeare in the Zelda titles that take place in The timeline of OOT, MM, TWW, PH after TWW. Because, I belive they were Kokiri forced to evolve due to the Great Flood, meaning they shouldn’t be in the same timeline as TP because they evolved only in the OOT, MM, TWW timeline and TP doesn’t take place in that timeline then they should only appeare in the games that take place in the same timeline as OOT, MM, TWW. Does that make more sense?

I, as a Zelda fan, have completed every Zelda ever released [except for a certain three], and one thing there really angers me is that people want to fight over something that will never have an affect on anyone’s lives.

The time line theory mostly, and utterly, is all gibberish, I’m not saying I support one or the other, I’m saying I don’t support any of them. The Zelda series has been a lot of fun, and probably always will be.

To put it plain and simple, Nintendo, Miyamoto, and Aunoma, made a series for people to entertain themselves. I do believe that a few games might be related, but i do no believe in a time line.

I mean the only things people see are relations of ideas, names, character models, and references. All the evidence is circumstantial, and there is no way to prove any connection, except through beliefs. For all we know, there could be at most fourteen different universes, in which each game takes place.

Even if there was a time line, how would that benefit us as a Zelda fan?

James writes:
Timeline debates give Zelda fans something to discuss about with the series. Like most pieces of fiction, fans like to be able to relate them to anything, but in this case, relate them to all the other games in the series. It also makes us wonder if these people put something in a certain game for a reason (like Koroks in tWW or anything OoT related in TP). You don’t have to believe in a timeline to enjoy the games. Discussing the timeline is just something a lot of people like to discuss about the games.

Black Omnimon writes:
All of the recent games (MM, TP, TWW and PH)are directly connected to OoT; it is obvious that Aunoma wanted this games to be connected, and the developers do seem to have forgotten of the ALttP-LA-LoZ-AoL arc.

This lefts the timeline like this:

OoT-TWW-PH
MM-TP-TP2

In a way in wich if you try to connect with the older games everything becomes blurry, and heavy speculation, outdated developer quotes, along with overthinked but unimportant lines within the games are needed if you want to make a connection. The only games that could hope to achieve some connection are the Four Swords series (TMC-FS-FSA) just because of how well are put together.

So I think that the classic Timeline (ALTTP-LA-LoZ-AoL), the modern Timeline (OoT-TWW-PH, MM-TP) and the Four Swords Timeline (TMC-FS-FSA) should not be tried to put together, because it just doesn’t works.

James writes:
They shouldn’t be put together, but they are related somehow. Otherwise, they wouldn’t all be called “The Legend of Zelda” and certain elements in the games wouldn’t be linked. Your “Modern Timeline” is the timeline (maybe even the FS one) I have been telling people in the only certain timeline in the bunch. Who knows what they are planning though.

1) Why do you think Tingle isn’t in Twilight Princess?”

I thought that Miyamaoto or someone said in a magazine that the person running the STARS game in TP was a descendant of Tingle’s. By the way, I don’t know why eveyone is so fed up in timeline theories. (no offense to anyone) I don’t see why you have to get so logical with something meant to amuse you, and keep you from thinking in the first place. Thanks for the time.

James writes:
I did find what you were talking about. This was on Wiki: “Purlo is the host of the STAR CIRCUS mini-game in Hyrule Castle Town, and indeed he does share some similarities with Tingle. According to Aonuma, Purlo’s appearance “is the result of wondering what a realistic Tingle would look like”. Among other physical similarities with Tingle, it is notable that Purlo is very greedy and has a love for Rupees.”

That One Guy From That One Place writes:
In response to what you have to say on my take on the independance of the villages. For the most part, you are right. I still think there is a lack of Hylian settlements, but thats just me. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so i hold everything to a high standard. (in my defense, I started getting irritated with these things halfway through my third play of the game, with the first two being too caught up in the story to notice)

I do have a question about the forums, my last mailbag entry inspired me to finally become a member. But I’m not recieving a confirmation email, so I can’t post anything. I’ve checked my spam folder, made sure the address was accurate, and requested the email, about 8 or 9 times, but I never recieve one, I just wonder why that could be.

So as not to waste your time, I have a legit zelda question for you. I support the tetraforce theory, as a whole, not everything that entails with it, but the basic proposal of it. I understand that it is shunned by the better part of the zelda community, and thier reasons are entirely credible. “We have no proof” well, do we for most of the other theories either? anyway, I’m just wondering on your take on it, because whether or not it will ever be proven right or wrong, it’s fun to discuss and speculate about.

For your forums question: for some reason, this is been happening to a lot of people recently. If you want, send me an email to my ZU mail (James (at) zeldauniverse dot net) and I’ll set you up.

For your Zelda question: First off, I don’t support the Tetraforce theory. The main reason it has been shunned across the community is due to the main fact: It is stated that it is a Triforce and that there has never been any mention of it. There have always been three chosen to hold the Triforce, and no other fourth running around looking extra special. But, opinions are opinions, and everyone has one, right?

Light Ganon 112m writes:
(James: Once again, he sent me four separate emails. So, here are all four):
1)Two mailbags a go, I asked about possibly finding Ganon’s triforce in a later game. Then you said it might be the journey for the ToP. Sooooo…… whats ToP stand for? It sounds like a sequel to TP.

2)Speaking of sequels, why does Nintendo place link games out in twos? LoZ+AoL, ALttP+LA, OoT+MM, OoS+OoA, FS+FSA, TWW+PH, TP+ToP? The only one that does not have a pair is TMC. Please explain why Nintendo puts Zelda games in pairs.

3)Hey I just read Odolwa’s table: Zora’s heart change from ALttP to OoT. But he left out a biggie that supports his theory- Jabu-Jabu! He probably helped change the new kings theory.

4)James- know any thing new about PH?

5)Why does TP come after OoT+MM, just wondering?

6)Also why do you think there the only timeline is OoT-MM-TP-TWW-PH. What about TMC-FS-FSA? isn’t that a timeline, or LoZ-AoL, and ALttP-LA? And surely the oracle games fit in somewhere.

7)Thirdly, I have some things to involving the Kokiri. It’s my theory on how they evolved (it won’t work for james’ timeline).
1.in the FS prologue it states that the origanal savior went into the forest.
2.in TMC there are little people known as minish.
3.put facts 1 and 2 together along with the fact Zelda games use magic, so the TMC link might have helped the minish grow into Kokiri.
4. Sages decide to flood Hyrule.
5. Both Kokiri and deku people freak out and look to the Deku tree for help.
6. He agrees to race the land if they agree to become one race.
7. They become the korok!
what you think?

8)Hey, were there any Zoras in TMC? If so are they good or evil?

Reason I want to know is, cuz I am working on an ultimate timeline based many of the different concepts of Zelda.(ex.World styles, sheild styles)

If anyone has any ideas on other stuff to include it please include it with your contributions to the mailbag. (unless James doesn’t want you to)

James writes:
1) ToP stands for Triforce of Power.
2) I think it’s more of an unspoken rule to place Link in two games. I haven’t read about the why. However, TMC is linked to the Four Sword Link in someway, that it might be the same Link. The reasoning being that Link in TMC gets the Four Sword
3) That does make sense. I’ll pass that piece of knowledge on to him.
4) If I did, I would’ve posted it by now, wouldn’t I?
5) TP definitely comes after OoT+MM because of all the in game references made. Most were put in for fan service and to make known that this game is an almost direct sequel to those games.
6) I guess I am really misunderstood. Let me make it known that I think those lesser timelines are active. Like the LoZ-AoL (that’s a given) and the TMC-FS-FSA one (which is a somewhat given). What I mean by the OoT-MM-TP-TWW-PH is that this is the only real main one that Aonuma and Miyamoto are truly working on. It makes sense, because OoT was the first time that a “timeline” of any sort was mentioned. Then you have MM linked directly to OoT, then TWW as well, then TP, and finally PH. The other games are important to a lesser plot, but that main one is the only one that the most work has been put into. Clearer?
7) That is believeable if you believe that TMC was the first in the timeline. That’s all I’ll leave that too.
I went searching around the net, and even went back and played around The Minish Cap for a bit. This isn’t actually a question, it’s probably more of an answer to a previous question in you’re mail bag and a bit of a “what do you think”?, it’s also a little theory on Timelines…Before you scream, I know you’re probably sick of all the theories but if i’m right it doeswork when it comes to the placement of certain characters eg. Tingle, Zora’s Korocks and Rito.

The Question that sparked this was:
Kokiri Mage7 writes:
I got to thinking about some things.
1) Why do you think Tingle isn’t in Twilight Princess?

I think you answerd that it was probably because he isnt very popular. After reading this i thought about the timelines and thought which Games Tingle has been in: MM and TWW, they are both in the same timeline as each other and they both aren’t in the same timeline as TP (Which Tingle is sadly missing *cough*), so that may be one reason why he wasn’t included,?? By determining which characters are/aren’t in a game may be a way to determine which of the other games goes into which timeline??

So if you could also take the koroks for instance, they shouldn’t appear in any game that is placed in the same time line as TP. (I’m one that believes they evolved from the Kokiri. This is the same for the Rito Tribe and if they are to be the evolution of the Zoras there shouldn’t be any Zoras in any game that comes after TWW and thus the reason why they are still around in other games eg. TP That is unless they were in hiding or sumthing stupid…I also don’t know if they make an appearance in PH, so who knows.

this theory may not work for other characters tho and I don’t think it works in the case of the Sages, those being Saria, Impa etc beacuse they are shown in the stain glass windows of sunken Hyrule castle in TP but they shouldn’t have even been awakened beause they are placed in the child Links Timeline. it would of made more sense if they were mentioned in TP than the TWW instead of those weird looking guys. Anyway I have babbled on too long. I’d like to know your thoughts tho, thanks. I just thought it was worth mentioning. =)

) “So if you could also take the koroks for instance, they shouldn’t appear in any game that is placed in the same time line as TP.” That sentence doesn’t place well with me.

I am sick of hearing about the timeline.

It goes OOT-MM-TP-TWW-PH and TMC-FSA. That is it. I have four point as to why this is true.

1. When the first few Zelda games came out Miyamoto was not thinking about a timeline.

2. I have never seen a timeline that includes the three horrible Zelda games Nintendo did not produce. People may hate it but it is still Zelda.

3. Characters like Tingle reappear because the game suits them, not to extend the timeline.

4. Whether you agree or still disagree now this point will change your mind. When you look at the timeline who is in charge of it? Is it Miyamoto or Aonuma. When Miyamoto created OOT I believe he did not mean for it to have a split timeline. However, when Aonuma took over it is clear that he does believe in the split timeline theory. Who is right?

With the exception of the timelines I put up none of the other games were meant to be put in one. It’s time we stopped trying to.

1) Why do you think Tingle isn’t in Twilight Princess?

2) Is it not said that the three golden goddesses (Din, Farore, and Nayru) departed for “the heavens” when their task was complete? And thus, would it not make sense that there be other gods (Cyclos and Zephos)?

3) Has anybody actually put the thought that it’s possible a new fairy going to help Link while he’s doing Phantom Hourglass?

4) Are you going to add the Twilight Princess version of Hyrule and the Twili to the “Lands of Hyrule” and “Races of Hyrule” sections under “Zelda Info”?

This isn’t a question, but I have tried sending you emails, but I think the spam filter blocks them. Anyway, I wanted to contact you to give the news about some new Master Sword replicas and the possibility of a liscense.

A few months ago you posted on your website a link to those master swords on ebay, the ones with the flat guards, that don’t resemble the master sword all that much, well now a blacksmith has made a true Ocarina of Time style Master Sword. It is probably the best replica out there, by far the best I have ever seen, its the real deal. It has a carbon steel blade(like the ones used 500 years ago and more), amber jewel on the hilt, and weighs only 3 lbs. The guy is trying to liscense to it to Nintendo, and rumor is Nintendo was loosely following his making of the sword(found here: Site

its worth a read, he made it for his daughter). I heard is making a few more. The popularity of the Master Sword could lead to an Officially Liscened model for us all. For those who cannot a hand forged replica, here is a decent one on ebay, much better than the old ones: Site

Photos of the hand made sword here: Picture

I hope that all of the people wanting the master sword and the news spreading will reach Nintendo, so I told the best Zelda fan site first. I hope you didn’t mind me posting this through mail bag, I don’t intend for it to send it to mailbag but it was my only choice, but I would be really happy if you posted it as a weekly update so more people know about this. -thanks

I thought that somebody would come up with this theory already, but even though the split-timeline theory has been confirmed no one seems to understand how easily the games fit together in the way I am about to show.

Ocarina of time kid story-windwaker-after that the other games fit in somehow , haven’t really though t of that yet but it isn’t a problem.

Ocarina of time adult story-twilight princess-minish cap-four swords games- the first one makes sense just like the old one did before twilight princess came around and the split-timeline theory was confirmed. Then the other one follows a new timeline, that does not conflict with anything. Ganon escaped from the golden realm and the sages captured him then twilight princess story starts, the twili become interchangeable with the picori (I believe that the twili became the picori similar to the way the zora became ritos), and the light force spoken of in minish cap are the powers of the light spirits which was given to zelda in twilight princess, then after many generations, the minish cap story starts. The light sword of twilight princess becomes the four sword during the minish cap. I know there are some holes in this theory but they could probabably be filled in by different zelda games with more thought than I have put into it and new zelda games being released. THe theory that you believe in contradicts with things said during the windwaker about the hero of time and him leaving hyrule which are obvious references to ocarina of time and majora’s mask and twilight princess can not fit in between majora’s mask and windwaker.

James writes:
What proof do you really have that the Twili became the Picori? They look NOTHING alike in any way, shape, or form. I am probably going to put my foot in my mouth here, but why would you evolve from a tall being to a really small one? Also, the Picori have also been around for a while; they were part of a different legend than that of the Twili. But that’s just me.

Well, firstly I want to say that I have been around on this website for a very long time, having it as my home page for almost four years now. I have never been an active part of the community for one reason or another, but I would like to appluad all of you on how relatively smoothly the site has been run despite all of the owner/staff changes. I have a few speculations and Questions to throw up in the air for you. I loved Twilight princess, in my opinion the best one-player game ever made. I am personally just wondering about the lack of certain things in Hyrulean Society in the game though. One, the lack of Human/Hylian (whichever you prefer) settlements in the game. I can think of 3 total, Ordon Village, Kakariko Village, and Hyrule castle town. Now, I understand that programing has it’s limits, but understandably if you are trying to portray any kind of humanoid race, we are greedy, and keep wanting to
expand our living space, it makes sense that there would be more than on major village, which is Hyrule castle town. It makes sense that there would be another village of at least equal merit somewhere in Hyrule. Although, It also makes sense that there would be a number of sparcely placed, smaller villages as well. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m not asking for some online rpg game world where you find a village every ten seconds of roaming through the overworld. But it just makes sense. Ok, starting with Ordon Village, I really have nothing to critisize with it, it is supposed to be small, very out of the way, and have few in habitants. But what it does do is show where each individual person lives, and how they achieve each aspect of life. They have a smith, a ranch, a shop, how they get thier food (fishing, and a few sparse pumpkin plants, resembling crop fields). But the other villages, they seem incomplete somehow, Kakariko for instance, the village itself there isn’t many problems with, it has a few shops, an inn, and the shaman’s house/whatever type of building it is. But what it lacks is civilization. The only true inhabitants it has, are the shaman and his son, and the bomb shop man, the children don’t really live there, now it makes sense that there would be a dip in population, due to the attack of the shadow beasts, but what exactly are we supposed to assume happened to those in habitants, they were killed? I was under the imprssion that shadow beasts didn’t kill, only assimilate as it were. Therefore as soon as the twilight was removed from that area, they should have been returned to thier original form, correct? Ok, putting that aside, there are still issues with how they live, there are no farms around for miles, so they have no easy way to get food. they have no carpenters, smiths, etc. so how will they get the goods they want. Now, once again, I understand the limitations that programming, time and money puts on the game, but shouldn’t there at least be a farm, somewhere in the world besides Ordon village. During the supposed time period, most villages were self dependant, and kakariko just lacks too many things. Ok, so moving on to hyrule castle town, the capital, and biggest city in the game. It has the most civilization/people of all of the cities in the game, now I think it is the best job nintendo has done in portraying a large city in a zelda game. But, one question always comes to mind as I walk through the city, where do all of these people live? there is no way, the city is big enough to house all of those inhabitants. I see one other problem with the city, all of the colorful fruits and vegetables at the market in the southern part of the town, where does it come from, once again, there is a lack of farms in the game, so I see no way for them to get any of that fruit. And since the deletion of the windmill from oot, no way for them to get bread either, maybe they could get goat meat imported from Ordon, but once again, most villages were self dependant. And in so far as the other race villages, they also seem incomplete to me. Now the Gorons are essentially tribal, and it would make sense that they have an essentially communistic society. (sidenote, i’ve always wondered what goron women look like) So it would also make sense, that they would all live like one big happy family, and most likely all in the same place, but where is that? With the grons it gets somewhat simpler on the whole eating thing, because they eat rocks, and where they live they are easily accessable. Now, the Zora village, they are considerably more advanced in thier way of thinking than the gorons, and may even be more intelligent than some hylians. To me personally it seems like they would have perhaps the same type of vilage (with differences due to the waterfall, and that they can breath underwater) as hyrule castly town, businesses and stores of every shape and kind, instead there is none. (going back to the goron village, why at the only solitary store they have, are they
selling things that would not be useful to a goron?) Now On some of this I will admit I’m being nitpicky, but if you put it all together, for me anyway, it just creates this huge hole in the game. Like I said it’s the best game I’ve ever played, but it does have flaws. Now due to the logetivity of this letter as it is, I will make my last few questions short.

1) What do you think happened to the kokiri, deku, shiekah, and gerudo? (The shiekah, probably becoming extinct, or mixed with the hylians so much you can’t tell anymore, same with the gerudo due to the lack of males in thier population, the kokiri probably hiding deep in the forest under the protection of the deku tree, but i’d like your opinion & what about the deku)

2)There is eveidence in 3 places in the game that there was once a town/city there, the temple of time, arbiters grounds, and snowpeak mansion, with the arbiters grounds and the temple of time, there had to be a place for the prison guards and thier families to live, thus bringing business people with them to cater to the guards needs. where were the priests dwellings for the temple of time, and where did the owner of snowpeak mansion get all of his/her supplies, there had to be a town there. What do you think?

3)Could you offer some speculation on links parents, the closest thing we ever get to mentioning them in any of the games is links grandma in windwaker.

James writes:
First off, why must you torture me with just a long question? Anyway.

First off, you placing too much on a video game to be perfect. Games are supposed to be an escape from reality; suspension of disbelief has to be there for you to truly enjoy a game. Why you are thinking about why villages aren’t capable of holding all it’s inhabitants and how they live day to day. You should be more concerned about the journey of Link and nothing else. I would probably think that all the villages are interlinked in trades of goods, food, and other items. The main export of Kakariko being bombs, Ordon being dairy and meats, and Hyrule being defense and attack items. But, once again, you are putting too much thought into that. Anyway…

1) The shiekah in this timeline seemed to have been either put into extreme hiding, or died out. The only one that looks to be a survivor is Impaz, but that isn’t really confirmed (well, I don’t think). I think once again you are putting too much thought into this. The Kokiri must be hiding deep with the forest somewhere, or are turning ever so slightly into the Koroks. The Dekus are probably in extreme hiding as well, or they moved entirely to Termina. The Gerudo is also an interesting question, but I do not have a possible answer for that. They might have been pushed out of the Desert when someone invaded. Who that someone is I do not know.

2) Wasn’t it said that the Temple of Time was pretty much for show as a entrance to the Sacred Realm? Was there ever any reference to priests worshipping there? The Arbiter’s Grounds is probably the remains of the Gerudo Fortress and their settlement. To answer that you would have to answer the same question for Ocarina of Time. Snowpeak is interesting as well. But, the Yeti’s more than likely take food and supplies from Zora’s Domain, since a lot of people tend to see them around their area.

3) Actually, you actually forgot the mention of Link’s mother in Ocarina of Time, and Link’s Uncle in ALttP. I don’t Link’s family is as important to the plot of the games as people put onto it.

Keenudakeaton writes:
Okay, I have quite a few things to talk about. lets start with the first thing(duh). Shigeru Miyamoto and Aonuma seem to do a lot of interveiws where they reveal small details and answers to zelda questions. I was wondering if they ever said (and I know this is kinda random)why the kokiri sword looks so different in Majoras Mask? Just wondering> and speaking of Majoras Mask, did the deku scrub you turn into have a name? the zora and the goron did so…

Next thing, Link in the OoT and WW both had a tittle. the hero of time and the hero of winds. so, did Link from TP have one? when he was in wolf form and talking to the light spirits, they called him Blue-eyed Beast. could that have been his tittle? Didn’t Midna say that in her world there was a legend of a blue eyed beast that would save them from evil or somthing.

James writes:
First: I don’t remember reading why it looks different. If you also notice, it’s named differently. This probably is due to the fact that Link was probably presented with a blade before he left for Termina. If you remember, the Kokiri Sword was “on loan” so to speak. The Deku doesn’t have a name that I know of. He is, more than likely, the lost son of the Butler in the Deku Palace though, if I remember correctly.

Next thing: It’s Title, not tittle (*laughs*). Not every hero in the series has to have a title. Not all the games have a title for the hero. Those are probably left open to interpretation.

I just wanted to inform everybody who has bought the japanese version of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, that there’s a bug in the game. You can discover some islands that are not on your sea chart before, and if you sail very close to them before you’ve discovered them, the game will stay in the cutscene where you normally discover the island. There is no way out of this as far as I can say, so you should save after every important event (e.g. when you’ve finished a dungeon).

Hmm… You make a wonderful point on the fact that Ganon can hand over some of his power. But, I saw it in the form that Ganon used Zant as a puppet. Because, Zant also claims that Ganon broke out before you even face him, and that he is waiting for you in Hyrule Castle. That would mean that Ganon is not in Zant, therefore just using him as a puppet. I still don’t know why it was Zant that snapped his neck, then Ganon died. Also, you claim that he still has the Triforce of Power. Didn’t you see him show his hand and the Triforce disappear? That told me that he lost the Triforce, because he then died. I don’t know, that ending is definitely open for interpretation.

While randomly glancing around the internet today, I came across this article on Joystiq:

His Link

It’s essentially just a bunch of pictures of the shields through out the Zelda Games, but if you look closely at the designs, you can’t help but seem some connections. This got me thinking about the timeline theory.

If you look at the shields, the similarity of TMC’s and TWW’s is undeniable. They’re essentially the same shield. Now, it’s sort of insignificant, but the detail can’t be ignored, and it clearly links the games. As such, I propose a timeline theory of sorts.

Essentially, it only relates to the Four Swords. In your site’s own theory, you decided not to place the Four Swords games in the timeline since they seem separate and essentially don’t interact with the rest of the games. However, I propose that The Minish Cap actually follows The Wind Waker. Now, of course, Phantom Hourglass falls in between them at some point, but I think that TMC also lies somewhere on TWW’s timeline. Following it is of course Four Swords, and then Four Swords Adventures.

Granted, the link is somewhat iffy, but it’s there, and I figured it was worth airing.

James writes:
It is probably might be a coincidence that the shields look alike. However, it may not. I am in the boat that Zelda started being a timeline once OoT came out. OoT, MM, the Oracles, TMC, TWW, TP, the FS games, and PH all lie in that group. So, they might be linked somehow.

Light Ganon 112m writes:
Do you think that, in a later game, link will have to quest for Ganons triforce? Because in the past games(LoZ and AoL) he has had to quest for both Zelda’s and his own.

James writes:
Well, the way that Twilight Princess ended sounds like it could be a good setup for the journey for the ToP. However, like I always say, that is up to those in charge to what happens.

This might seem like a dumb question, but are four swords and four swords adventure 2 different games or the same game with different mechanics? I have the gameboy advance ALTTP/FS game, but foolishly did not know you need 3 other cartriges and people and gameboys to play the FS part. I also have the gamecube FSA but I can’t tell if its a whole new game or just a version that one person can play alone. I think its a diferent one but am not positive.

James writes:
The Four Sword game that comes with ALttP on the GBA is more of a multiplayer games, where FSA can be played either way. They both are based on a similar concept, but they do differ. Four Sword definitely comes first. You go through three levels of multiplayer and that’s it. It is more of an added bonus for buying the game. FSA is a full adventure of the same premise, but it follows FS. FSA starts with you already sealing Vaati in FS and then he breaks out again. Does that help?

Is there any way out of the “Sky Cannon Glitch” on Twilight Princess? Do you know if Nintendo has released a newer version of the game with this glitch fixed yet? I should have known better, having heard about it before, but I completely forgot when I actually reached the notorious room. A warning to all: DO NOT save in the Sky Cannon room, or you will be stuck there with no way to continue your game!

James writes:
Yes, they did fix it. But, the link I provided back when I reported seemed to have been a very crappy one. So, here is the link again: This Page. Nintendo did tell everyone that they goofed and decided that if you sent your game in, they would send it back fixed. The glitch would be gone, and possibly any other major bugs they left in. More than likely, the game you see on the shelf is the newest version, however, if it isn’t, you have that link now.

I have a question about zelda’s newest race, the twili. The ones in the twilight relm, are they naked with black and blueish-white skin, or do they just have blueish-white skin with strange black clothing? I ask this because when Midna turns into her true form at the end of TP, it looks like anything black on her is part of the cloak she’s wearing. i was tinkng of drawing a twili version of link and i want to know weather to make his skin black and white or just white with a black tunic. thanks

James writes:
The general idea I get from those I asked is that it is their skin that you see, but those in power wear some clothing. That’s why Zant looks like he wears clothes, as well as Midna when she loses the curse. Hope that helps.

Korokoro writes:
This is debated pretty annoyingly on forums and wikipedia, so I was wondering if there was any official word (ie, from the translators, or even better, from the original game) of whether the Sols were the guardian deities Midna mentioned, and whether Twilight Hyrule was an extension of the Twilight Realm (sort of like overlapping dimensions from the Twilight Zone), or merely a cursed version of Hyrule. My experience with the Dark World leads me to believe the extension bit, what with the Dark World’s mention in OoT and, how it acted in FSA. But I’m no Shigeru, so I was wondering if you guys knew of any official word, and if not….

Could you please ask it in the next interview one of you or the rest of the community gets with the official guys? For me?

James writes:
Meh, if you want to get it asked in an interview, TSA would be your man. I will bring it up. I would have to think of it this way, since the Twilight Realm is able to take over. The Twilight Realm is just that, Twilight. Midna even mentions something about that during the game, that we see it during our own Twilight. Therefore, the realm is more of a interdimensional rift that you can get stuck in if you use the Twilight Mirror. It also explains why people from Hyrule were able to see into the Realm when it was taking over, but those monsters couldn’t see them, they were in different dimensions of space. It’s just that, the Twilight part was becoming more prominent so the light people were being phased out. Think of it this way: If Zant was victorous

and the Twilight Realm had taken over, the Twilight Realm would have been the more prominent part of Hyrule, and the Light People would be the phased part. This would be easier to understand if I could reference Stargate: SG-1…

Here some things I hope you can respond too.

1. I’m taking a vote! Do you think the fairy in PH will be navi, tatl, scullkid’s other fairy, or a new fairy?

2. I have found seven different Gods throughout the Zelda games(Din, Nayru, Farore, Great Deku Tree, Jabu-Jabu(Jabun), Valvagia(Valoo), Zephos).

So why isn’t the triforce called the sepforce? I can think of seven charecters to give a piece too(Ganon, Zelda, Link, Wizard(name veries), Majora, Impa, Vaati).

If your wondering how I connected Gods to charecters here it is: Din to Ganon, Nayru to Zelda, and Farore to Link, shuold all be easy to figure out. Next, Deku Tree to Wizard(ex. names; wizard who put Zelda into “eternal” sleep, Agahnim, Zant)-both comeback to life after death(wizard with a different name though). Jabu-Jabu to Majora- Majora is as mysterious as the Zora, who worship Jabu-Jabu. Valvagia to Impa- both protective. Finaly, Zephos to Vaati- both cotrolers of the wind.

James writes:
1. From the videos I see already, it sounds like Navi. But, that would confuse poor timeline purists, now wouldn’t it?

2. Because you are claiming someone as a god when you shouldn’t. Besides the first three, those others you listed were more guardians over a race and looked upon as a god, not a god.

*LoZ-PH* writes:
I have a theory about the evolution of zoras. warnig: this might not work for timelines.

My theory goes like so; first they were Zolas and were untamable! Next, Jabu-Jabu was able to control them and as such he was called a god. They

were then known as Zoras. Then when Hyrule was flooded Jabu-Jabu became Jabun and told the zora to mix with birds for the waters were no-longer safe. They became the Rito.

Speaking of Jabu-Jabu; do you think he might have been the Wind Fish from LA? If not what do you think happend to the wind fish.

James writes:
It does work, but as you said, it doesn’t work for timelines. As Ocarina of Time is the first game, Zora’s were already there. And you see Zolas in the first and third games. They come later. So, unless there were games before that say what you say, then I would say no.

I don’t think he’s the Wind Fish, as again, if you’re a timeline person, Jabu came first. As for the Wind Fish, he disappeared when Koholint disappeared. That game seems confusing to begin with anyway, with the whole dream thing.

Why does everybody hate the idea of a Tingle RPG so much? I know there’s a lot of hatred towards Tingle, which I never personally understood, but it’s still another game. I mean, is everyone that biased towards Tingle that they won’t even try a game. It doesn’t look that bad, even if it is weird. But, I mean, the thing that angers me the most, is that since they don’t want it, they don’t even want it to come out. Don’t ruin the experience for somebody else; if you don’t want it, don’t get it. I can’t understand why people said “Don’t you dare bring it over” when Nintendo Power did that poll. It just ruins the experience for everyone. It just makes me mad. What do you think?

Also, is there any news of it coming stateside? If it doesn’t, I’m blaming the idiots of the community who decided to ruin our chances and fun, and I’ll be angry. Anyways, thanks.

James writes:
I don’t know the hatred of Tingle. I think it might stem from the fact that he DOES come off annoying, like Jar-Jar Binks annoying. For some reason, people here don’t like him. But, he is more of Japanese staple, which is why he is loved over there. I would play a Tingle RPG, just to try it out. Warning: spoilers
I know there is a Dark Link, seen in AoL, OoT, and FSA, but do you think there will ever be a Light Ganon? You would have to team up with him to defeat Ganon, or whoever would be the badguy!

Also, in MM what the heck does the feild in the moon symbolize?

Finaly, tell me what you think of this timeline I made. Sorry it’s long.

1.TMC-(at end) with Vaati defeated Link settles down.
2.OoT-(at end) Zelda sends Link back in time, where Ganon is locked a way before finding the triforce.
3.MM-(at begining) young Link goes to a new land where he meets Majora(’s mask).(at end) with Major defeated Link goes into hiding.
4.OoS/OoA-(at begining)the triforce convinces Link to come out of hiding to stop two witches from bring Ganon back.(at end) Ganon remains locked away, now in the Twilight realm.
5.TP-(at begining) Ganon tries to take over from the Twilight realm.(at end) Ganon is defeated, and apears to die.
6.FS/FSA- Vaati escepes. Link puts him back in the sword. Using a dark mirror Ganon becomes whole, creats a dark link, and realses Vaati. Link destroys Vaati and puts Ganon in the sword.
7.LoZ-(at begining) Ganon escapes sword.(at end) Ganon is sent back to sacred realm.
8.AoL-Link must awake the princess, while Ganon’s men try to get link’s blood.(at end) Link sucseeds and Ganon’s men fail to win his blood.
9.AlttP-Ganon tries to take over from the spirit world. Link kills(for real) him in the end.
10.LA-(at begining) Link goes out to find info about Ganon’s ash. Instead he gets shiprecked.(at end) He wakes the Wind Fish and returns home.
11.When he returns Ganon’s men kill Link and sprinkel his blood on Ganon’s ash. This revives Ganon, with no Link to stop him. Instead the sages flood hyrule to protect it.
12.TWW- new Link rises and saves both Zelda and his sister, but also turns Ganon to stone.
13.PH-?
So sorry for longness. So sorry for misspellings.

James writes:
Your name a play on mine? Nice. Anyway, to your question. For the Light Ganon, that idea would be VERY far-fetched an idea to stray down. I don’t know how they would be able to pull that off.

Does the moon’s field have to symbolize anything? Really, I haven’t a clue, probably the idea that the moon is vast and that Link should just stop and smell the roses. If anyone has a better symbolism for it, let me know.

What’s with all the timelines going on here? That, and like I have said a million times, I am not a timeline theorist. Also, I am also in the boat that states that there is only a timeline in the Ocarina saga, which means that only games after Ocarina of Time really have a timeline. Well, the 3D ones anyway.

ok, first off, I know this is, like, the 3rd or 4th submission I’ve sent in, like, 4 or 5 days, and you seem to think thats annoying. I’m sorry, but I didn’t think of all my questions all at once. Anyway, as for the questions, I have two. Firstly, are you absalutaley sure you don’t have a release date for PH? Its just, if Japan already has it out, then shouldn’t we in America get reletively soon? Second, I just relized that the story of the wind waker(Hyrule sinking under the ocean) sounds a lot like the myth of Atlantis. What do tou think? could nintendo possabley have been inspired for TWW by Atlantis? Don’t get me wrong, I love the wind waker. It was my first Zelda game. It’s just something to consider, you know.

James writes:
I don’t get annoyed my multiple submissions. I know the fact that you think of a question after hitting submit. It happens. Anyway, first off: No, we don’t have a set date for the American or European release of Phantom Hourglass. It is now out in Japan, but they are being hush about us. More than likely, they are waiting for this wonderful new E3 to let the cat out of the bag and get us all excited for it. Secondly, yes, Wind Waker does sound a little like the Atlantis myth. However, the way that Nintendo conceived the flooding of Hyrule was not explored in the Myth of Atlantis. That, or I haven’t read a lot about Atlantis. I read that Atlantis sank for undisclosed reasons, but there is no proof that it exists. Hyrule sank to hide it from Ganondorf. Maybe Nintendo knows more about Atlantis than we do.

Do you have any idea where this path might lead? Yes, your answer might be, “Go there yourself!” But… well… I don’t know how! It’s a river! And the water damages you! I tried finding alternative routes, but no luck. Any idea how to get there?

Hi. I was sitting around with zelda on my mind and I got to thinking, why is LoZ: A Link To The past called a link to the past? I read the comic and am about half way through the game, but I see nothing that has to do with the past. I get the pun In the tittle, but why not call it A Link to the Trifoce, or A Link to the Dark World, or something? thanks for time, bye

James writes:
Funny you mention this, because it was actually brought up on the forums not too long ago. Actually, brought up a lot. Considering I found not one but two threads about it. So, here’s what they had to say on the matter:

Posted by wiredbilly: Rather than listening to everybody’s intepretations about the imprisoning war and how it relates to the Ocarina of Time when the damn game wasn’t even a twinkle in Miyamoto’s eye, the real reason is simple. The translator has said on numerous occasions that he called it A Link to the Past because he thought it was a cool title, which it is.
If you read through those threads you’ll find that the game was initially called Triforce of the Gods in Japan.

In the last mailbag last names were mentioned and while reading it I got reminded of something. It is clearly stated in Wind Waker that the last name of the royal family is Hyrule. However, on some sites and mainly in fanfiction, “Harkinian” appears often as Zelda’s last name. Is that also her name or do you know where this name came from and why it is used?
I have thought about it for a long time and would be grateful for an answer. Thank you.

First off: ZU ROCKS!

Next, I have some questions, and I hope you can answer them.

In one of the mailbags it says, TMC is the prequel to FS. However in FS it says Vaati was placed in the sword before the game. Now, I do not have a copy of TMC myself, so correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no Four Sword in TMC. Please respond.

My next question is why isn’t Majora ever brought back. I mean they bring back ganon over and over again. Not to mention Vaati has already starred in three games! I know he is in a parallel dimention, but still!

In a separate email, same person:

I have an idea for a timeline!

Now, the thing to remember about my timeline is that there are several, each in a parallel dimention.

timeline1: OoT, MM, TP, TWW, PH.
nick name: Hero of Time saga
note: MM, TP and TWW could(key word) come from different endings of
OoT. Also PH only follows TWW(I think).

2: LoZ, ALttP, OoS, OoA, AoL, LA.
nick name: could not think of one.
note: In this timeline AoL + LA are moved to the back, because in this
timeline ganon “completely” dies in OoA, so then his ashes get
involved.

3: TMC, FS, FSA.
nick name: Vaati trilogy
note: I am not sure if TMC is placed correctly. Also I do not believe
the triforce exsites in this timeline.

And in a third separate email:

In AoL they mention a magian putting Zelda into an “endless” sleep. Is this magian related to ganon or the magian from ALttP?

James writes:
Man, you really need to send this all in one email. Confusing. Anyway onto the reading and answering.

Alright, I will correct you for being wrong. You should go and replay The Minish Cap, because you would notice the wonderful Four Sword at the end of the game. When you fused all four elements to the restored Picori Blade, it becomes the Four Sword. Hence, the reason why you split into four during the game. Did you even play the game?

The simple reason? They haven’t created a sequel to Majora’s Mask. So, if they choose to make a sequel to the game, and incorporate Majora back into it, they can do so. I wouldn’t mind a sequel to explain more about the backstory of the mask. It would be a nice ending to that story.

For the timeline: Your Hero of Time saga and Vaati trilogies I agree with. However, your second one could use some tweaking. LoZ and AoL are a confirmed back to back series. There is no denying that fact. But, like I always say in timeline debates: The only saga that has a true “timeline” is the Hero of Time saga.

First, spelling police: Magician. There is no evidence that the Magician in AoL is Agahnim nor is it linked to Ganon in any way. I could be wrong, though.

Light Ganon 112m writes:
James says first: this is the fourth of six emails this guy sent me. It is split into two separate “entries”

I’ve looking around, and I wanted to know, what is the difference beetween the old mailbag and the new one?

The fifth email:

Have you noticed that each helper link gets has a different personality. ex:

OoT’s Navi: annoying.(personal thought)
MM’s Tatl: uses you to find skullkid.
TWW’s King of the Red Lions: mentor.
TP’s Midna: just plain rude!(personal again)

However, each of them ends up to be friends with Link.(Alwys!)

This blend seems to me add a more to each Zelda game.

The sixth and hopefully final email this week:

I have a new timeline idea!

Thing to remember; each line is a different possible order of games. No line has every game so they go into different dimentions.

timeline 1: OoT, TP, TWW, PH.
summery: In OoT Zelda did *not* send Link back in time. Link goes into hiding, after he dies Ganon returns; and a new heroe rises for TP. After that, Hyrule sinks just in case Ganon returns. He does, starting up TWW+PH.

timeline 2: OoT, LoZ, ALttP, LA, AoL.
summery: OoT; same ending as timeline 1. After Link dies Ganon captures Zelda; she breaks her triforce into eight. A new heroe rises. After that, Ganon tries to take over from the dark world. Once dies people fret of his ashes. Link goes to find info about the ashes, but gets ship wrecked. Once he returns he must wake Zelda without Ganons men killing him to restore Ganon.

timeline 3: OoT, MM, OoS, OoA.
summery: At the end of OoT Zelda *does* send Link back in time. He then saves a new land from the evil of Majora. He then goes into hiding, but comes out to answer the triforce’s call to save two far off lands. After which, he becomes known as the “Heroe of All Lands”.

timeline 4: OoT, TMC, FS, FSA.
summery: After defeating Ganon Link then enjoys his life. However his son(wife unknown) must work with the minish to defeat Vaati. Years later, a new boy must redefeat Vaati with the Four Sword. However, Vaati comes back again. This time bringing back Ganon with him. The boy must now defeat them both!

I hope you could follow this okay. They all start with OoT then branch into thier own seperate timelines. Please tell me what you think!

James writes:
First statement: holy crap, man. You really had to send me six separate emails? But, that’s the least of issues.

First off: The diffence between old and new is this: The older ones were the ones Lars and then I did back in 2002-03. Lars initially started the mailbag himself, but hired me as the mailbag editor. I unexpectedly quit in 2003 (my life had picked up) and the mailbag stopped. Scott took it over again in 2005, when he became a webmaster. I came back in 2006 as a site helper, and took it over again when I asked for it back. I have been doing it since in either the mailbag itself or recently in Hey! Listen!

Next: If you kept the same personality on a “helper”, things get bland. So, they mixed it up on the 3D games to give it more depth. However, we differ in opinions. Navi is of course annoying, that’s a given, but I found Midna to be a rather unique character. She does start out rude to you, mainly because she is just using her for her own personal agenda. However, she grows to like you more and more as the game goes on, which how the game ends. The main reason why she breaks the Mirror is because she is torn with the fact that she likes Link, but knows she can’t be with him. That’s my theory anyway.

And finally: That timeline is more absurd that the other one you sent me. OoT does not start all “four” of the sagas. First off, where is your evidence to say that Link doesn’t go back in time at the end of OoT? He does, the game even shows it. The rest of that, however, does seem ok. I am not even going to start digging into the rest, I’ll let the ZU faithful do so in their comments.

Hall of Shame, you say?

James writes:
Will be classic has-beens? First of all, that statement is half true. While those systems are classic, they will never be has-beens. You would be surprised on the amount of people who still have a NES and still play it. I just read a blog the other day where a guy actually had his NES repaired so he could keep playing it. The NES will never die, because Nintendo won’t let it. Without the NES, Sony wouldn’t exist in the game market, neither would Microsoft. Seriously, you have a problem with the future? Go into a time machine and head back to the past and put of the Power Glove. I hear it’s bad.

The mailbag over the past couple of months really hasn’t gotten many submissions. Whatever the lack of submissions, there will still coming in to be answered. However, when I run the mailbag, I tend to submit only where there is a nice amount of emails built up, therefore not wasting space. So, on May 6, 2007, I decided to combine the mailbag into Hey! Listen! each week, so that people’s questions were answered and not being ignored. That, and add another section to a nice weekly feature. Here are all the emails I answered from May 6 until June 3, all in one nice nifty package. Enjoy.

I have not heard anyone talking about twilight princess time line placement, but wouldn’t it seem logical, that it place in the alternate time line theory, in the time line where Link is sent back form ocarina of time and there is only Zelda.(Because in tp it showed the sages sealing ganondorf away and not the hero) Or could it be that the sealing of ganondorf was just a retelling of the sealing that happened in oot during the final battle. What are your thoughts on this?

James writes:
I believe that the powers that be announced that Twilight Princess takes place years after the child timeline of Ocarina of Time. Meaning, Link went back in time, went to Termina, and never returned. Ganondorf was sealed by the Sages and sent to the Twilight Realm, because he was still technically wondering about, because the future that Link and Zelda gave him never happened. They also claim (I could be wrong) that Ganondorf in The Wind Waker was the one that was sealed at the end of the Adult Timeline. This makes NO sense to me or many, but that’s what they claim.

zelda_geek writes:
For all those people that played Twilight Princess and beat it you know that it was easier than you expected don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved this game and the boss battles are amazing but the final boss battle was pretty disappointing but some what hard. I played through the cave of ordeals which was really hard especially the final stage where you fight the darknuts. That’s where I died. Overalll I would give this a game a 5 out of 5 for being awesome.

James writes:
I will admit, I died A LOT in this game compared to the others before it. But, most of the times I died, it was mainly out of stupidity and it was early in the game. Overall, the game was easy, with the occasional challenge. The two most challenging bosses of the game, in my opinion, were Stallord and Agrorok. Stallord’s first part was annoying just because of those ghosts that blocked his spine. Getting around those were annoying. His second part was a challenge as well, avoiding traps, his attacks, and hitting him the right way. Agrorok was just a challenge due to it being in the air and having to keep grappling around and around and around. But, alas, I rant.

Do you think Nintendo is sincerely concerned that Zelda games follow a story? Or at least, are they aware of all these timeline theorizing?

James writes:
First part of the question: They are not really that concerned with the timeline, but they have been trying over the years to implement one. I believe many interviews given it was said that gameplay and graphics rule over story and timeline placement. They get their fair share, but it’s not high on priority. I still don’t think they know themselves where it’s going, but that’s just me. As for the second part: They have to know about the timeline theories. If they know about the speedruns, they HAVE to know about what we think. They probably get a kick about many of the theories we pull out of the air.

If you have a question you would like answered in the Mailbag, be sure to send it in.

Hi. Well You know that commercial of the Wind Waker that the girl is talking bla bla bla, and say in the ending to fulfill his destiny which is to save me. Whos me? Is it Aryll or Zelda? i was a zelda webmaster myself and tons of people asked me this.

James writes:
For those wondering which commerical, let my friends at YouTube refresh your memory. Now, remembering that video and playing through the game, it could be both. The initial reason why Link left his island was to save his sister, Aryll, from Ganondorf. He doesn’t accomplish that until halfway through the game. Now, if you want to go deeper, it could be Tetra/Zelda for this reason: Ganondorf wanting both Link and Zelda for the Triforce causes Link’s purpose to change slightly halfway through the game. After saving his sister, he goes on his
journey, goes back to Hyrule, and then has resave Zelda from Ganondorf. So, I don’t have a definite answer, but I would say Aryll. But, what I want to know is why she has a british accent if this game is essentially a Japanese game?

As everyone knows Zelda’s community has been strong for years, nonetheless I think it’s starting to fall. I just think as the older fans start to have lives, there just haven’t been enough younger ones to fill their place. Like Dampe, TRM, and TML, have started to fade from the community. So all I’m asking is where is our community going and what will happen if it starts to fade. . .?

James writes:
I think that as long as all of us continue to remain Zelda fans, this community will never truly die. You also to add in the fact that the Zelda community is kinda like a business in this sense: There will always be someone with the same skill level to replace those leaving. What I mean is that in any company, you’ll find that the new people are trained to take over for those leaving the company. The knowledge of running sites is also one of those things that really isn’t that difficult, you just have to be very competent at it. The only way I really ever see the Zelda community dying is if the games die. Which, the way they are going, I don’t see that happening for a long time.

The Missing Link writes:
Hello, I am ‘the Missing Link’ wanting your opinion on this thought:

When Link was teleported to Termina, he left Hyrule and when into an alternate diminsion. In Wind Waker, Link’s clan still remains. I believe that time slows down in Termina. Here’s an example:

Ten years in Termina = 1000 years in Hyrule

If you are one of the ones that believes that Link reencarnates, then it must be logical that after he spent some time in the land of Termina, he returned to Hyrule to find that it has sunken under the water. I think that if this was true, it may’ve been a “last hope” by King Hyrule to use the Triforce to sink it. Link might’ve fled to an island and had children.

Also, in the beginning of Majora’s Mask, it says that Link set off on a journey to find a “close friend”. A lot of people interpritted that they meant Skull Kid, but I beg to differ. I belive that he was searching for Navi. It was a direct sequal to OoT, meaning that Navi was around at the time. Your
thoughts?

James writes:
First, I believe that most people actually believe the close friend was Navi, he just ended up never finding her and saving Termina. Plus, I think you may have to look up the word “reincarnate”. If are reincarnated, you don’t necessarily have to procreate. You die and then you come back in the form of another lifeform, which in the case of Link, is the same blonde haired, green tuniced body. I do not really see any evidence, though, that could allow time to be slower in Termina, other than the fact that Link keeps going back in time and is in a Groundhog Day loop.

Well, seeing as though I didn’t understand a word you just said, I will do my best to answer this. I don’t know what direction those people at Nintendo are planning, just that the new game will be different from what Zelda has been. We will probably not know anything about the new Zelda game until possibly next year.

James writes:
I have no knowledge about the Wii except all the rumors that you probably have heard as well. The last I heard, they had already started working on the next Wii Zelda long before Twilight Princess was even released. If that were true, some news should start popping up within the next year or so. But, I wouldn’t hold you breath for information at the new E3 this year.

Red Triforce writes:
This is probably an obvious answer and its embarassing as a zelda fan that I don’t know this but what exactly are these “Imprisoning Wars” I keep hearing about? I think they are the wars mentioned in OoT, the ones that Link’s mom was fleeing from, but I’m not sure. And why were they called the Imprisoning wars? What were they fought for?

James writes:
This is still a heated topic among theorists in the Zelda community. Some claim that the Imprisoning War was the war fought before the start of A Link to the Past. While others follow your theory, that it was War before Ocarina of Time. Even others think it was Ocarina of Time. However, the common theory is that what the Imprisoning War was. It was a war that was fought over the Triforce, it’s rightful owner, and the sealing of the Triforce from evil. Those who claim that Ocarina of Time was the Imprisoning War claim so because Ganon was being the thing Imprisoned. Now, I know I am going to get a hailstorm about this answer, but I actually did do some research on this this time. Most sites claim that OoT was the Imprisoning War. However, there are still some out there that believe otherwise. So, don’t hurt me because of it.

A. Small writes:
Everybody (including Nintendo) say that all of the future Links are descended from the Hero of Time, Link I, right? I have found a major flaw in this theory. Wind Waker’s Link is said to not be related to the Hero of Time at all. This can be proven, as if one reads the translated Ancient Hylian text after beating the game once that the King of Red Lions, Jabun and the Great Deku Tree speak, they all say that that Link has no connections to the Hero of Time (save his courage). To further this theory, I think that instead of being descended from the Hero of Time, all Links are reincarnations of the same Hero throughout Hyrule’s history. This can be supported by Ganon’s statement in The Wind Waker. He says that Link is surely the Hero of Time reborn. What do you think? Does it make sense? Or did I miss something important?

James writes:
Alright, kiddies, here are the quotes for those playing along:
“*Jabun (talking to KORL): If you have sought me out… it must mean you have found the Hero of Time, does it not? *King of Red Lions (talking to Jabun)*: The one I have brought with me has no connection to the legendary one. And yet I sense great promise in the courage that this one possesses.”
“King of Red Lions (talking to Link before the Tower of the Gods): Only one who is able to overcome the trials that await here will be acknowledged by the gods to be a true hero. Only then will that hero be permitted to wield the power to destroy the great evil.”
“King of Red Lions (talking to Link before going to take on Ganon): Oh! What is this? There, on your hand- the Triforce piece now dwells within you! It is the Triforce of Courage- proof that you are indeed the true hero. You have controlled the wind and crossed the seas, and here, near the end of your quest, the power of the gods has been bestowed upon you… Surely from this moment on, you shall be known as the Hero of Winds… Link! Hero of Winds!”
“Ganon: Yes, surely you are the Hero of Time, reborn…”
“Faron (talking to Link): The green tunic that is your garb once belonged to the ancient hero chosen by the gods… His power is yours. His is the true power that slept within you. Your name is Link. You are the hero chosen by the gods. Brave Link…”
Got that? The first four being from The Wind Waker, and the last from Twilight Princess. This is another one of those theories that is hard to decipher with in-game text. While all the text I did quote can go both ways on this, the majority of it states that Link is an incarnation of the original hero. The question than stems to who the original exactly is. I tend to follow the theory that OoT-MM-TP-tWW-PH saga is one big entanglement (which most do). I’ve begun to believe that more and more as the games progressed. I also believe that the other games are not tied it, so this would make the Hero of Time the original Hero (which of course is obvious). Now, if you reread that text again, the obvious fact would be that the Triforce of Courage is the “reincarnation” factor of all the Links. So, my theory is that once the Hero of Time departed and died, the gods watched for Ganondorfs return, which was bound to happen. Once it happened, the gods chose TP Link to become the next hero. That is supported by TP itself and the fact that nowhere in the backstory does it show how Link actually was able to obtain the ToC off the bat. This then makes me think that the Nintendo juggernauts should have thought of this more. Instead of the Hero of Time actually hiding the Triforce for Wind Waker Link to find, TP Link actually hid the Triforce once he was able to harness it. Therefore, the next time the hero was found, it was not due to the gods, who were busy flooding Hyrule, but Daphnes. Once he found out Ganon was back, he set out to find the new hero. It wasn’t hard to determine, as Link tried to take him on himself because of his Courage to save his sister himself. Therefore, Link in tWW became the new incarnation of the hero due to that. Now, this is exactly what you said, but it is something I have always believed ever since tWW came out. TP just added more to the theory. So, that enough of an answer for you?

Do you think that the Game Boy is dead? I truly liked the Zeldas on it (Particularly TMC), and I think that Nintendo might abandon it soon. Why? Why put a good handheld line that has survived for over ten years away? I really like the Game Boy Micro, and it is definitely well-designed, but why throw that away in favor of a higher-end handheld?

James writes:
The Game Boy idea will never truly die. While the DS is not exactly named a “Game Boy”, it still uses the same premise of the Game Boy. It’s a handheld, battery powered, and plays somewhat smaller games (by small I mean in terms of length) than it’s console counterparts. Also, the Game Boy Advance still has games being released for it, so I don’t think the Game Boy, nor it’s legacy, will ever truly be dead.

When you acquire the final skill the skeleton mentions something. I cant remember exactly what that basically states that he was Link of Ocarina of Time. If any of you have noticed this, have you noticed any evidence that proves this false?

James writes:
What, you mean this one: “Although I accepted life as the hero, I could not convey the lessons of that life to those who came after. At last, I have eased my regrets.” How about the fact that the guides call him the Hero’s Spirit? Those two pieces are the only evidence that the skeleton is the Hero of Time. However, that really isn’t much evidence, so it could go both ways. The more interesting point of that conversation, I think, is the last line he utters before leaving: “Go and do not falter, my child!” Ponder that one for a while.

Throughout the entire game of Ocarina, it was a true mystery to what Shiek’s true agenda was, who he was, and why he was so intent on helping Link. Something about mystery excites me, I guess.

Do you mean this quote? “If only I knew you would become such a handsome man…I should have kept the promise I made back then…” Now, you have to think of this. When Nabooru first meets Link, he is a kid of age 10-12. I would believe that Nabooru is older than he, so why would her promise be to marry him? More than likely the something was something she could help Link with either somewhere in the Gerudo Fortress or in the Spirit Temple.

Hello, long time site goer, first time sender. Well, I was just wondering if you would start a, for lack of a better name, Cutting Room Floor section to Twilight Princess, and other games in the series. I mean, jsut looking at some of the screen shots & traliers of TP(that’ll be my main example for a bit), shows things like a lost (mini)boss(that spider chasing link through a tunnel), a weird selshaded enemy, carrying cats through a forest, and a magic meter are all not in the final product. You know, that kind of stuff, all in one section. And people could submit ideas as to why it was cut, other stuff not
already in teh section, and stuff of the sort. Or would this thing be better left to other sites?

James writes:
I believe that if we were to do this for Twilight Princess, we would probably have to find all the stuff for all the other games in the past. There is a lot of stuff we could find for OoT, MM, tWW, and Twilight Princess. A lot of images surfaced in the past for those games as well. If you can find someone who would be willing to find all the beta stuff for the games, we would be willing to post the beta stuff on the site.

I’m playing Oracle of Ages right now, and I was wondering, in your opinion, which one of the three animal freinds is the best. Thanks!

James writes:
Well, Jimmy, I would have to say that I am partial to Ricky the Kangaroo. Since you are able to attack and jump high platforms. I really don’t have anything else that I could say.

Awesome site. There are a few mistakes with your histories/bios, though which can be pointed out with actual game quotes, such as the rito being decended of the Zora, and the Zoras and Zolas being the same race (see the Oracles games) and the amount of time between Ocarina and Windwaker HAS to be thousands of years, as there have definitly been at least 4 Links (although some might argue up to 8 so far). Between their lives, their stories became legend before another is even born. I don’t like to pick away at stuff, but I could help you tweek your timeline theory because it’s got holes.

James writes:
As I see your statement, you are saying that everything we have said can’t be fact. The Rito/Zora thing has a very good reasoning behind it. How else could a Rito be able to be the next sage of the Earth Temple (which was saged by a Zora) if they weren’t a descendant of a Zora? The same could be said about the Korok’s being the descendants of the Kokiri. Similar reasoning used. As for Wind Waker/Ocarina timeline, why would it have to be thousands of years? I am pretty sure that a flood could occur in a few hundreds of years. As for the timeline, as stated above, we do know that timeline needs tweaking. I think I need to talk to staff again about how to fix that up.

Gororn Senator writes:
I was wondering, why haven,t you included the Yetis in the races of Hyrule section. It is a clerical error or is there a zeldauniverse higher up with some sort of vendetta against them. If its an error then please fix it, I weep for my furry unrecognized brethren! If it is a vendetta then you have a story to tell, did one of you and the Yetis swear eternal hatred for each other? In case of vendetta, please still add them.

James writes:
I don’t like the Yeti’s. Bigfoot doesn’t exist, so why should they? Or, my answer should be that it is a simple mistake on our part and it will be fixed ASAP.

Nintendo2.0 writes:
In Twilight Princess, (I don’t know if someone already asked this in previous submissions) why didn’t they include the magic meter as well as the other cool items, such as Din’s Fire and Fire/Ice Arrows, in this Zelda game? What’s your opinion on this? Personally, I guess that they didn’t have enough time to include them.

James writes:
Now, I differ from your opinion. Since prior videos showed a magic meter in the game, which was later taken out, they probably were planning on including stuff like that. Now, why they changed their mind, I cannot say. There are many possibilities to why they took it out. First, it could be due to the fact that they traded it for the Wolf form. They might have figured out that they didn’t need magical items to make a point in the game. I don’t know. We may never know why it was taken out.

Hey there

umm, im just making a comment/question regarding Squiggy’s timeline theory.

wouldnt it be more beleiveable that there is another game.. or rather, not a GAME but merely a story after TP and before WW? (nintendo didnt say it was right before WW), the legend says there was no hero to stop ganon (from wind waker). and of course you cant have a zelda game witout link being the hero. In my oppinion TP is the last game before WW, but not the last story. theres just a story after TP adn before WW that tells of everythign that happened there, the dissapearance of the zoras, the flood, and such.

squiggy thought that the time line might break in 2 again, like what the split timeline theorists (including myself) believe happened at the end of OOT. fairly unlikely.. i think..

i think its fairly obvious that TP comes after OOT adn is before WW. and that there is another story atfer TP and before WW.

i used SO many abbreviations in this… abbreviation is a long word for what it means eh?

James writes:
That’s what most of the community believes, since most believe in a single timeline. However, that’s the beauty of timelines. There are so many possibilites until the real one is finally released.

Hi,
Awesome site btw!
I’ve had a few questions playing on my mind for a while now about the Forrest Haven in WW and was wondering what your thoughts are? Forgive me if I have repeated something another person has asked before but here goes.

Firstly, am I a complete moron or is there possibly a glich in the Forrest Haven’s design? That being the deku tree 2 (Deku sprout in OOT). How is it possible for it to be above the Great Sea and growing in the remains of the Deku tree 1 (Original Deku tree from OOT) when it clearly sprouted on the ground, infront of Deku Tree 1 in OOT? I found this odd because when consider the fact that the only islands on the Great Sea are those of the highest peaks in Hyrule it must be impossible for this to occur. Maybe I have this all wrong, am I missing something?

I was also wondering what your thoughts were on the Koroks? Who do you believe they are and why do so many people insist they are not infact the Kokiri themselves? My theory on this subject is that when the Great Flood occured in Hyrule the Kokiri Children were forced to leave the safety of thier forrest and were thus turned into Koroks. Another back up to that theory is the spirit of the wind Sage Fado, he’s a Kokiri and when the Wind temple is cleared Makar, a Korok becomes the new Sage, this being only possible if they are from the same blood line. So they must be decendents of the Kokiri, how the Kokiri have decendents is a completely differnat story and doesn’t seem possible but I won’t go into that.

Anyways I have babbled on for far too long, thanks for your time. =)

James writes:
Firstly, there are two explanations to your first query. The first being that it is indeed the same Deku Tree we saw sprout at the end of Ocarina, but it was moved to higher ground when the Flood occurred. Therefore, the text that you read is indeed correct (the one where he starts talking to you in Hylian, then realizes that you don’t know that language). The second being that it is another Deku Tree that knows a different hero than that of Ocarina, but that hero also knew Hylian as well. I wonder how many emails I am going to get saying that I’m wrong and there is are more explanations on this.

Secondly, the Koroks. Not much is indeed known of what they are, or where they come from, but your idea seems to be the general idea. The Koroks are either decendants of the Kokiri, or the Kokiri themselves mutated. Either works.

Do you ever notice that pretty much the Zelda series goes like, make 1 Link, put him in 2 games then make another Link and put him in another 2 games and so on. Example: LoZ and AoL, ALttP and LA, Oot and MM, OoS and OoA, FS and FSA, TWW and PH. Plus somebody posted on ZU about TP having a sequel in the works. Spoilers: in the end of TMC they said that Link’s adventures were not over or something like that. That could mean a sequel or that FS Link is TMC Link which I highly doubt. What’s your opinion?

James writes:
That is indeed the pattern that seems to be happening, and you’re not the first to notice it. Also, it is believed that the TMC-FS-FSA Link is the same Link, but no doubt the same storyline (since they all share the common enemy of Vaati).

Jordon writes:
Sorry for going back on this subject but the last post i wasent very spacific. The giant spider im talking about in the trailer shows the front of link while your running down a tunnal of sorts and really huge spider behind you like its a mini boss. I know the spiders your talking about and i would be a idot if i missed those.

James writes:
Oh, this trailer. That spider was indeed not in the game at all. Well, from what I saw anyway. It also seems that a lot of things from that trailer was changed (including, but no limited to, the room where the Babboon Mini-Boss takes place). It was probably scrapped during development in favor of something else. Sorry about that.

The Tingle RPG is not going to be considered an official Zelda game and is not going to be on the site, right? The game shouldn’t have any connection with Zelda, like the cd-i games.

(This is what i think)

James writes:
If you want to get technical, a few years back, we did have the CD-i games on the site. In fact, if you want to get more technical, the pages still do exist on our server, they just aren’t linked to. You can consider Tingle RPG a spin-off of the series, including everyone’s (not) favorite
Tingle.

So.. i was thinking aobut the little things that change they way different things are percieved. and i got to thinking..I love the Moblins and Bokoblins etc. in WW and TP. but… what if they were in OoT? how do you think that would have changed the game? Same with darknuts, they’re so intense in TP, but they’re b**** to kill. what if Oot had them as well? it would have been a very different game, or so i beleive. its amazing the difference that enemies can make.

James writes:
Well, you apparently missed the Moblins that were in Ocarina of Time. I suggest going back to the Sacred Forest Meadow in the future and saying hi for me. However, the other enemies you listed were not. However, Iron Knuckles are similar to Darknuts, so in essence you did face one (three actually) in Ocarina of Time. I don’t think the games would have changed though, with the addition of those enemies.

Hi. I was dowloading wallpapers in the media section. But when I got to the wallpapers below Site Exclusive, some of the Twilight Princess and TWW wallpapers would load. I tried to refresh several times, but they still wouldn’t load. I wonder what the problem is xD

James writes:
That was due to the server move we had a while back when Yusuf bought the site. I believe andi is working on fixing the section up as I type this. The section should be up and running in no time.

James writes:
Alright, alright, calm down. First, you need to go to the Hidden Village and find the hole that is hidden in the back of the village. You need to fall down that hole, find the Great Fairy inside and she will give you the Triforce of Courage that will give you your Magic Meter. And if you believe that, I can also tell you where to find the Triforce in Ocarina of Time, as well as the Tetraforce.
