The History of Zelda Combat

a part of The Missing Link series of articles

Article By Demo

Combat has been the bread and butter of every Legend of Zelda game since their humble beginnings in 1986. The gameplay of the series has been, and always will be, centered around action-filled encounters between Link and his adversaries. Although Link’s adventures may also include puzzle-solving from time to time, from a gameplay point of view combat always takes a front seat, and has evolved with each new installment to the series. The intention behind this article is to analyze and explore these combat mechanics, and to realize how they have changed over time.

It is awesome to see Link get more powerfull with each game, and combat system get more depth, too bad the enemies are easy and stupid, Its as if the enemies are still stuck in the 80's. Why make such detailed combat if all the enemies in the game can be destroyed it one or two hits. Its sad to see such wasted potential- Twilight Princess im looking at you

something i've always wanted to see in a zelda game is sword to sword combat. like blocking an attack with your sword and then quickly getting a strike in. maybe we'll see that in the next zelda wii if it uses the wii motion plus

  4. Necrolord Says:

Great article, though i must say that the part where the shocking addition in Twilight Princess is the Bomb Arrow I must say is incorrect, Bomb Arrows appeared first in Links Awakening for Game Boy where you equip both of them and use them simultaneously, also known as "missile".

I completely forgot about this. Great job with the rest of the article. Other than what Necrolord said, it was a really awesome read.
