Majora’s Mask Challenges

Challenge #8: Defeat the Woodfall Gecko using only the Goron and Zora masks.
Difficulty: Easy
Use the Goron Pound to stun the turtle as it spins towards you, then don the Zora mask and attack the frog with your boomerang fins.

Challenge #9: Defeat Odolwa using the Deku, Goron and Zora masks.
Difficulty: Easy
This is not overly difficult, but it adds variety to the battle. Try rolling into Odolwa as a Goron. Also take advantage of the Deku Flower at the room’s center and drop Deku Nuts on him from above.
Challenge #10: Defeat Odolwa without using any C-items, and without ever targeting him. Use the Kokiri Sword, not a more powerful sword.
Difficulty: Moderate
No transformation masks allowed, just your sword and shield.

Challenge #11: Defeat Goht using only the Blast Mask, Bombs, and Bombchus.
Difficulty: Easy
Again, this is not too difficult, but it’s pretty fun. It often gets intimidating when Goht suddenly appears charging towards you.
Challenge #12: Defeat Goht using the Bunny Hood and Magic Arrows, attacking only while Goht stands still and fires bolts of lightning.
Difficulty: Moderate
You’ll need to run around the arena until Goht stops running and starts firing lightning at you. Do not target him, but face him and hold Z or L so you can move to the left and right. Fire Magic Arrows at him as you strafe – you can keep attacking until one of the lightning bolts strikes you.
Challenge #13: Defeat Goht with only three hearts and a small Magic Meter. No additional heart containers, no upgraded sword, no defense enhancement, no fairies or potions, no Chateau Romani, no Fierce Deity Mask.
Difficulty: Moderate
This simply forces you to be more careful during the battle: there are no replenishment hearts in this arena, so don’t take too much damage.

Challenge #14: Defeat Wart using only the Deku mask.
Difficulty: Moderate
Clear off enough of the pink bubbles surrounding Wart and you can shoot its eye with your own bubbles. When Wart starts charging around the room, you can attack by twirling into its open eye.

Challenge #15: Stun Gyorg using only the Deku and Goron masks, then damage him using the Zora mask.
Difficulty: Easy
The Deku and Goron forms can’t deal damage to Gyorg, but they can stun him.
Challenge #16: Defeat Gyorg using only the Zora mask, attacking only while underwater.
Difficulty: Hard
Do not leave the water to shoot arrows at Gyorg. You’ll have to duel him while remaining in the water, leaving you extremely exposed to his attacks.
Challenge #17: Defeat Gyorg with only three hearts and a small Magic Meter. No additional heart containers, no defense enhancement, no fairies or potions, no Chateau Romani, no Fierce Deity Mask.
Difficulty: Hard
If you’re attacked twice, you’re dead, unless you manage to pick up some replenishment hearts from the small fish that eventually appear.

Challenge #18: Defeat Igos du Ikana with only three hearts. No upgraded sword, no defense enhancement, no fairies or potions.
Difficulty: Moderate
There’s a very easy way to do this, but you’ll need to experiment to figure it out.

Challenge #19: Defeat the three Dinofols in Ikana wearing the Zora mask the entire battle.
Difficulty: Easy
This is the battle set in the secret shrine behind the waterfall in Ikana. If you get hit by the Dinofols’ fire attacks, the battle starts over.

Challenge #20: Attack the Garos with your sword while they charge towards you.
Difficulty: Moderate
Bonus points if you use the Kokiri Sword and avoid using the spin attack.
Challenge #21: Defeat the Garo Master using only the Deku or Zora masks.
Difficulty: Moderate
As a Zora or Deku, you’re vulnerable to the Garo Master’s flaming swords.

Challenge #22: Defeat Gomess with only three hearts and a small Magic Meter. No additional heart containers, no upgraded sword, no defense enhancement, no fairies or potions, no Chateau Romani.
Difficulty: Hard
The first time you strike Gomess, the vampirish monster floats towards you twirling its scythe. You can strike it a second time as it does this by performing a quick spin attack. When Gomess sends the Bad Bats out to chase you, you can run to Gomess and strike its weak point without needing to use a Light Arrow.

Challenge #23: Defeat Twinmold using only the Goron mask and Chateau Romani.
Difficulty: Moderate
This is pretty fun, but it takes patience and good timing.
Challenge #24: Defeat Twinmold with only three hearts and a small Magic Meter. No additional heart containers, no upgraded sword or quiver, no defense enhancement, no fairies or potions, no Chateau Romani, no Fierce Deity Mask.
Difficulty: Brutal
This one is particularly difficult. Twinmold deals ¼ heart damage when you’re a Giant, and 1 heart damage when you’re normal size. As a Giant, you might accumulate minor damage quickly, and your magic continuously drains. Without the mask, you’re extremely vulnerable. The worms like to burst from the sand right beneath you or sneak up on you when you’re waiting to fire an arrow at the tail of the other worm.

To add difficulty to any of these challenges, do not destroy the four boss masks.
Challenge #25: Defeat Majora without using any C-items. Use the Kokiri Sword, not a more powerful sword.
Difficulty: Hard
Before the battle, give up three of your masks to the children in the field so your C Buttons will be empty.
Challenge #26: Defeat Majora with only three hearts and a small Magic Meter. No additional heart containers, no upgraded sword or quiver, no defense enhancement, no fairies or potions, no Chateau Romani, no Fierce Deity mask.
Difficulty: Hard
Be precise and be patient.
Challenge #27: Defeat Majora using only the Goron mask and Chateau Romani.
Difficulty: Hard
To attack the Mask, you need to hit it with your second Goron punch, the uppercut, as the Mask twirls towards you. If you’re lucky, you might be able to hurt it with a Goron Pound. This phase of the battle is particularly frustrating after the Mask starts using its fire attack; its twirling attack becomes rare, and the boss masks like to fire at you as you’re preparing the second punch. If this gets too agonizing, you might want to resort to a different transformation to defeat the Mask and move on to the next phase. The Incarnation is fun to fight – roll after it and try to ram it, then circle back and attack again to damage it. Attack the Wrath by rolling into it then coming back to punch it.
Challenge #28: Defeat Majora using only the Deku mask.
Difficulty: Brutal
The patterns on the floor of the arena are actually variations of Deku Flowers – you can burrow in them and shoot out to attack Majora, but you can’t fly around the room. Use these flowers to attack the Mask when it twirls around the room, but be careful to avoid its fire attack. To defeat the Wrath, you’ll need to figure out the opportune moment to twirl into it without being kicked away.

Challenge #29: Defeat Majora with only three hearts, using only the Fierce Deity mask. Let your Magic Meter be empty the entire battle. No defense enhancement, no fairies or potions.
Difficulty: Brutal
Before the battle, drain your health meter until you only have three hearts. Each time you die during this challenge, you awaken with three hearts. You’re not allowed to make many mistakes here, so strategize and be patient to keep yourself alive.
