Overview

Those of you who have played Super Mario Bros. Crossover will be happy to know that version 2.0 is now available to play. The game is almost the same as the original Super Mario Bros. with four levels in each of the eight worlds. The first three require you to reach the flagpole while the end level has you facing off against the King of the Koopas, Bowser.

The best part about the game though is the ability to control Link.

Several new aspects have been added to the 2.0 version, including the ability to play as Link from several different games (the original, The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, and Link’s Awakening). Even Dark Link makes an appearance… The music also changes to match whichever Link you’re playing as.

You can use Link’s boomerang to stun enemies, and while you’re jumping you can press up or down on your keyboard and perform sword thrusts to kill your attackers.

Other characters you can choose to play as are:

  • Super plumbers Mario and Luigi
  •  Samus Aran from the shoot-em up Metroid series
  • Mega Man and Bass from the Mega Man series
  • Simon Belmont from Castlevania
  • Bill Rizer appears from Contra
  • Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaidan
  • Sophia the 3rd from Blaster Master

You can click here to play the game for yourself. It is quite a lot of fun! Tutorials are provided in-game to help you get familiar with it all too.

What do you think of the game? Do you like the way Link has been utilized for controlling in a Mario style game?

It kinda feels like Adventure Mode on Super Smash Bros. Melee. You choose your character, you pick what type your character is, then you're off!

This game is great, but I'm actually ever so slightly disapponted with how Link is implimented. He plays fine, but I think it would of been better to do with his ALttP sprite, or his taller Adventure of Link sprite, as a sidescrolling game. All the other characters seem quite faithfully done, so it seems odd that they forgot that Link actually does have a sidescrolling game as well.
