Walkthrough
Overview

Even if you don’t have a Game Boy Advance, you can still play some of those great classic titles.  Nintendo is re-releasing ten Game Boy Advance titles via the 3Ds’s Ambassador Program, and The Minish Cap is on the list.  The Ambassador Program was created in response to less-than-expected sales reactions to the 3DS, and consists of ten NES games, already available, which can be downloaded at no extra cost.  The ten Game Boy Advance games will be available starting December 16 in Japan, Australia, and, presumably, the rest of the world.  Keep an eye out for eShop updates on your 3DS, and read on to see the full list of the ten games that will soon be available.

  • F-Zero: Maximum Velocity *
  • Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap *
  • Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones *
  • Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
  • Mario Kart: Super Circuit
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong *
  • Metroid Fusion
  • Wario Land 4 *
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames

* These titles were only very recently confirmed to be on the Ambassador Program’s list.

Now I’ll have 3 Minish caps, both my GBA copies and now the 3DS port!

    • Hugo

      Hahaha, same here!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/Thareous Thareous

Good to finally see one of the best portable Zelda titles being ported.

    • http://twitter.com/thecannonball34 @thecannonball34

      Link's Awakening is way better.

      • Casual Vader

I agree. Though I still love Minish Cap. The worst part about it is that it was the start of portable Zeldas having only four dungeons plus the final dungeon.

      • http://jefferyscottliechty.blogspot.com/ Phantomgannon

Minish cap has 5 dungeons. One for ice, fire, forest, and then two for air. plus that last dungeon.

For a while there I kept trying to respell minish cause i thought i spelt it incorrect because of the red line under it.. but then I realized its not a real word… haha

      • Casual Vader

There's two air dungeons? I guess it doesn't help my memory that I only played through Minish Cap completely once. Still, it was the start of fewer dungeons on portable Zeldas.

  • genjgenj

TMC is a great game–I would dare say better than ALTTP.

Fire Emlem: The Sacred Stones blows ass, though.

Should've ported the one before with Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector.

That's a really, really good list of free games, otherwise.

    • Truth

Finally! There's No Way "A Link to the Past" appeals to normal gamers in the modern age, and I hate it when people say it's somehow the best Zelda Game. New players play it having been told its the best game, and think lowly of the entire series. In fact, I think it's one of the worst, because the other games (with the exception of Phantom Hourglass) are so much better than it.

      • Truth

I just think maybe I expected A Link to the Past to be much more that it actually was, and have a low opinion of it myself because of that.

  • Denre01

Feels kind of unfair that the people who didn't join the ambassador program won't be able to play these games on their 3ds console. it's a shame they wont even let us pay for them.

    • Tiberius

you didn't "join" the program, Nintendo put people in it solely based on if they got their 3DS before the price drop, so it's perfectly fair to get them for free, and i'm sure they'll see eshop releases eventually.

    • FBV5

How is letting you have them fair to the early buyers of the 3DS?, Making them exclusive is more than enough to make it up to us, You paying a fiver for it and us getting it for free is kinda unfair to us, since that doesn't seem like the ambassorders are getting rewarded

      • http://jefferyscottliechty.blogspot.com/ Phantomgannon

All the ambassadors would have bought the 3DS if it was 250 or 400. Don't act like you would have thought twice if the price HADN'T dropped. WE WANT MC TOO!

No offense, but I think the opposite. I thinks its unfair NOT to release it to all of nintendos fans. I would have bought a 3ds for 250 if I had had the chance when it first came out. The week I bought it was the week they changed the price, but i planned on buying either way.

20 free games, roughly 5 dollars each. that more than makes up for what extra the ambassadors paid, and I think that we should have the opportunity to fork out 5 bucks for the games we want.

  • genjgenj

Pretty sure Nintendo will release those games (and many more GBA games) later on in the eShop when there are more retail 3DS games.

The 3DS game lineup is sort of slim right now–Nintendo probably doesn't want the 3DS owners too fixated on buying old $5 games from the eShop.

    • Truth

I would be happy if these games turned out to not be exclusives, but I think these 10 games are exclusive to ambassadors forever. I want to play Fusion definitely.

      • genjgenj

Let's assume each of those free GBA games would cost somewhere between $5-$8 at the eShop (if they ever became available to buy).

That's about $70 in free games just from that list.

Plus the previous 10 NES games–let's add about $40 more to that.

That's about $110 of games–20 games. I think the Ambassadors are getting a fair compensation.

How would having GBA Warioware exlusive to the Ambassadors be anymore rewarding?

  • Ivan

It's disappointing, I hoped that there would be more titles in the program.

    • Casual Vader

…. Ivan… ? This isn't my friend Ivan is it?

edit: Why did someone thumbs up this…?

  • Sakume

I'm glad they won't be available to anyone else. It's part of what makes the rewards program feel so rewarding.

  • http://wiiuinsiders.com wii u

    That is some great news.

  • Casual Vader

Argh! I can't wait! While I have and have beaten Minish Cap and Fusion I've never played the others.

  • http://twitter.com/OishiiApps @OishiiApps

Nintendo!! You don't have time to dick around! Your selection of games right now is paltry at best! Even on the Wii virtual console the selection is still disgustingly small!

I don't get it Nintendo, don't you want to make more fucking money? I am waiting here with my money for you to bring more titles to the virtual console. I am ready to buy these great classic games, but you are choosing to make everyone wait for no fucking reason.

    Hurry the fuck up!

    • genjgenj

My theory is that because the 3DS game selection is so paltry, Nintendo doesn't want to use quality GBA games as a substitute.

By adding a substantial number of quality GBA games in the eShop would:
-Make it painfully obvious that there is a lack of 3DS games
-Make 3DS owners rely on inexpensive old games for entertainment, possibly taking sales away from 3DS games.
-Make the 3DS system known as a handheld for old, outdated games.

  • Topaz Mutiny

Oh goody. I guess this means along with LA and FS, I can really start getting more intimate with the handheld Zelda games – I never had the opportunity to get them until now.

I guess that means all I have left to get are the Oracle games and the TWW sequels.

  • Gwydion

On one hand, I already have Minish Cap, but on the other, I'm glad I'll have it on my 3DS along with LoZ, AoL, FS, LA, and OoT. Half the Zelda games I current own are all on one system! Now all I need is for them to release the Oracle games – I was so jealous of a friend of mine that had them back in the day, and I STILL haven't had the chance to play them for more than five minutes!

  • prada

the minish cap is way underrated! its greatness

  • A_LINK_IN_TIME

Yes, MC finally come to me!

  • iehio44eh

Wow. I wish I bought my 3DS early.

  • avert_from_the_norm

So are these ambassador titles going to be free for EVERYONE! and is there a timelimit on how long they will be free?

    • Dragoon2525

no they'll only be available to nintendo 3ds ambassadors. which are people who bought there 3ds before the 70$ price drop.

  • Lilly

looool of course I had just found a GBA copy and am at the final boss fight when they say this XD

  • Sanguiluna

Hopefully they'll sell these games in the near future on the eshop. I miss playing Metroid Fusion. Best damn game in the whole series IMO.

  • Omega RKB

So by waiting to buy the limited edition Zelda anniversary 3DS I have been permanently deprived of having my favoritism Zelda game on my 3DS?

    Great.
